smack bang in the middle of arguably the best run of production in british pop history, you know the one that goes from 'lexicon of love' thru to 'a secret wish'? you know the trevor horn stuff?
well there's that name right there - anne pigalle - and i have never heard of her.

who is she?
what good stuff did she do?
how is the lp 'Everything Could Be So Perfect... '?
and how come she isn't as well known as the other
artists from the TH golden era?

I think Mr. Reynolds muttered something about her in the postpunk book...

Can't remember anything about her except she was on The Tube once. I think she was a wacky auteur.

what i have heard of her stuff still sounds fresh despite (or because of) those 80's trappings and the production is interesting, considering that she's basically a torch singer. her voice reminds me of someone but i can never place the comparison. she was gorgeous though and always makes me think of Blitz Magazine (which she appeared on the cover of) - those Morley connections!

there's a YSI on the way. maybe two if you're lucky!

ahh now i recall why i always wished i had picked up the album, the covers were gorgeous .. the glamour of abc meets the mystery of propaganda.

Always loved that album in all its glorious over-the-top-ness. I played "Why Does It Have To Be This Way?" on WFMU a few years ago and got a very nice email from her in reply...

Douglas (Douglas), Thursday, 4 August 2005 18:59 (twenty years ago)

yousendit seems to be on a go-slow. i'll try and upload it later. "Why Does It Have To Be This Way?" is the track i'm uploading, Douglas.

nine years pass...

comprehensively represented on Spotify. messy production on much of it. sounds sorta like demos buried under all the chintz but some good
stuff in there.

reminds me a lot of Christine And The Queens weirdly.

<3 Pigalle

also one of my favourite examples of "people who have obviously written their own wikipedia articles"

piscesx, Thursday, 6 October 2016 21:22 (nine years ago)

this is one of the few classic era ZTT albums i have yet to get.

reviews are mixed.

that said, i am very tempted ..

mark e, Thursday, 6 October 2016 21:33 (nine years ago)

mark e, Thursday, 6 October 2016 21:34 (nine years ago)

ordered : after years of desire.

Why Does It Have To Be This Way is truly great, but I don't think the rest of the album really holds up. There are some good things there, but it all sounds too much of what it actually is, which is a mid-80s pastiche of all that 50s/60s chanson/accordion stuff. It was a bit of a micro-trend at the time.
