sounds claimed by multiple scenes

tim mentioned something interesting on a thread i'm too tired to find now abt the (quite appropriately named, in this instance) border community artists being quite clearly located somewhere along the micro/electrohouse axis in ilm world, while the prog house kids see them as undeniable products of their own scene. we can talk abt this particular case here, but i'm also interested in past instances of this phenomenon - certain artists or sounds being attributed/embraced by more than one genre/scene as particularly good examples of that sound, not as genre-crossing fusionists

I am more into the aforementioned genre-crossing fusionists...

Not QUITE the same thing, but I always try to consider Stereolab as being more Velvets-influenced than Neu-influenced (not being a big Neu fan.)

I keep seeing this thread title and thinking of something like the sound of Furious Style's Anger Balls sounding like the tires of the car going for the drive-by in Boyz N' The Hood.

Dog nose all sorts claim Dylan, VU, Beatles, Stones (in the late 70s, Creem used to have Keef on the cover *a lot*, and I thought it was because he had cred with their Aerokiss readers, some punks, some girls, old men, drug dealers, etc)
