The Velvet Revolver formula = singer from washed up 90s band + washed up 80s band without singer + name that combines half the name of a canonical band with part of or all of the title of a canonical album. When the band performs live, they play songs from their album of originals, plus classic hits by the singer and the original band.

For example, the surviving members of INXS should give up on that reality show and start a new band called Midnight Nation with Gavin Rossdale. When they perform live, they should do "Never Tear Us Apart," "Suicide Blonde," "Need You Tonight," "Glycerine," and "Little Things."

To reverse the formula slightly, Huey Lewis should team up with the surviving members of Sublime. They would call themselves Madness Mondatta or something horrible like that.

Gavin Rossdale has a new band which the alt rock DJ described as sounding "like Bush after 15 Red Bulls". It was BAD.

>members of Queen with chunky lead singer from Blues Traveler< they have actually been touring with ill machoist Paul Rodgers, of Bad Co.! (Once described by Simon Frith as "the meanest man in rock", but maybe they're mean too.)He didn't make them change the name though. Linda Perry joins Jefferson Airship next week(probably)!

Eddie Vedder fronts Living Colour performing as Pink Station. They do a sick version of Alive going into Cult of Personality. (I think this would actually work quite well)

I'd take the surviving members of The Doors, with the exception of John Densmore (cuz he seems whiny), and add Ian Astbury, the Native folklore lovin' frontman of The Cult.
And I'd call the result The Doors of the 21st Century.
Unless Densmore got a court order or something, and then I'd come up with some other name like D21.

BanjoMania (Brilhante), Saturday, 6 August 2005 15:22 (twenty years ago)

A friend of mine met Ian Astbury recently, not knowing who he was - so he asked him, and he said "I'm the lead singer with The Doors"...and my friend's mate, who was a little stoned, actually said the words "I thought you were dead"...

Acid Mothers Stone Temple Love Bone

I don't really know who all the members are, as I spend all my time at the show watching and waiting for the ash to fall off the end of Cotton Casino's cigarette.

Ed Kowalcyzk from Live + the surviving members of Big Country = The Unforgettable Faces. They might not actually play any Big Country songs, but they would certainly do "Lightning Crashes," "White, Discussion," "I Alone," and "Lakini's Juice."
