Dave van Ronk died yesterday from colon cancer aged 65. A moving memoir of a live performance at the Vancouver Folk Music Festival in the early 80s.

Only 3 posts on this thread! Shameful. I was just listening to the first side of "Dave Van Ronk, Folksinger" over the weekend. Wow- it's really good.

It's not at all what you'd expect from that milquetoast title either. It's more edgy and bluesy - like Johnny Cash perhaps, but with fingerpicking guitar.

I recently picked up a copy of his "Hudson Dusters" album, an experiment in rowdy Butterfield-style blues rock. Pretty good, but the solo acoustic stuff is the place to begin.
