So what's the verdict on this one? For some reason I decided all of a sudden yesterday I wanted to hear this one again in its entirety, though I haven't for at least 15 years. When I bought it I don't remember liking it much as a whole, though certainly it contained highlights. I racked my brains at work yesterday trying to remember if I still had the vinyl in my posession, and concluded from my memories of DJing that I must. I was delighted to find it and confirm I still had it. It's the kind of thing I'd expect to hear with different ears now, though I confess I don't listen to the Cure very much anymore at all. Not so much because I don't like them but because I associate them with memories of high school in a cringeworthy way.

So what say you on this first baby step of a band who, well...the rest is history.

I underrate this album a lot; it's much better than it should be and some of the more obscure album tracks (particularly "Another Day") rank up there among the best songs the group ever did.

"So What?" still isn't very convincing, though. Nice idea, poor execution. I think that was the song that made me realize that I didn't actually like punk after all.

A+++++. Great album I love it.

Probably their best album. Yet another of the incredible crop of complete winners from 1979's post-punk crop--probably the zenith year of "pure," unadulterated, totally adventurous post-punk.

Although I probably like 'Faith' as much.

is it too off topic to ask what cure songs are punk ?

I'm not even sure what that question would mean, personally.

But then again, I don't really believe in "punk" as a particular sound.

My mom called Just Like Heaven "punk" once and turned it off the radio when she was driving. I punched her in the face.

No, not really, and thankfully this has a simple answer: once
Seventeen Seconds was released, that was the end of Punk Cure
songs. Although it's possible someone who knows the Cure's discography better than I will point to some obscure pre-first album 12", and that's me, then, down the wronghole of obscurity.

TIB is a great album that could have been a total classic if they had decided leave off "Foxy Lady" and "So What" and included the singles ("Killing An Arab", "Boys Don't Cry", and "Jumping Someone Else's Train") instead. There are also great unincluded tracks from that period like "I Want To Be Old", "I'm Cold", "I Just Need Myself", and "World War" that are better than some songs on the album.

Don't forget "Do the Hansa"!

Umm, that's pretty much a perfect description of this:

"Heroin Face" is also awesome.

Classic. Maybe their 3rd best (17 secs and Faith are my favorites), but when I was 16, hearing the tap goes....drip..drip...drip.... thing made a lot of sense. (erm, doesn't now, fix your fucking faucet!)
