The Scenario: BAM has commissioned these two self-important old fogeys- sorry, musical geniuses, to collaborate on a musical work of unspecified format- could be ballet, could be opera, could be music for shadow puppets, could be anything their creative hearts desire. Submit your proposal now!

It would sound like my worst nightmare.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 8 August 2005 20:55 (twenty years ago)

Indeed. Note: the creative license they have been given allows them to bring in other celeb collaborators from the world of dance, performance art, etc.

Concept album: they start a garage band together and decide to write rad high energy pop-rock songs that are really, tight and crisp and energetic. They will use really cool equipment and they will put some serious fucking guts into the music.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Monday, 8 August 2005 20:59 (twenty years ago)

they make an a capella record along the same lines as medulla. brilliant!

mookieproof (mookieproof), Monday, 8 August 2005 21:00 (twenty years ago)

Ah, science fiction! Very good, Tim!

I'd like to see a full-on Mamas & Papas or Abba style, heavily produced family band with Lou, Laurie, Elvis & Diana. Lou & Elvis write all of the tunes, Laurie produces & arranges, Diana sings lead while the other three harmonize together. They would need some choreographed dance steps as well.

somehow lou reed singing backup doesn't sound appealing to me.

A 45-minute cello drone underneath Lou Reed reading the works of an unknown Latino poet. The entire project would be too paralyzed by fogey-rockist expectation for them to do anything else.

Rick Massimo (Rick Massimo), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 12:56 (twenty years ago)

I can't imagine it being especially great, personally. The Juliet Letters meet Time Rocker. No fucking thanks.

Thanks, Rick. That was exactly the kind of thing I was looking for.

Costello and Reed Sing Johnny Cash

The Mad Puffin (The Mad Puffin), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 14:32 (twenty years ago)

That's about right. It's giving me that sinking feeling in the pit of stomach.

The answer is pretty much as predicted: Search And Destroy: Lou Reed
