On David Byrne's blog(get the link off of M. Matos list of links on his blog) he talks about being asked to come up with a new melody for a Monte song, and how she then transformed it into something more unique.

Blue Note is very aware of my insults about Norah Jones and they are against women who can write music. I blow Marisa Monte away, vocally and writing wise. but she is good.
Blue Note is anti talent scum.
..Propaganda.
and not really in music, but power and control. Marisa Monte is not a great writer.
or singer. she relies on everyone else, and isn't Linda rondstadt monster talent.

If you're referring to the song that loads automatically when you open the page, it is indeed "E Voce" from the Tribalistas album. One of my very favourite albums from 2003.

The reason Marissa Marchant never got signed is because her voice is ordinary and Marisa Monte's voice is beautiful. Marissa doesn't have a beautiful voice.
Marisa Monte may not write any music but she much more beautiful and talented then Marissa. The record labels knows what sells. They sign the most beautiful and talented people in the world.
Isn't Jessica Simpson a knock out?
Marissa is such an ordinary woman with no looks and talent.
She is just crazy.

so what if Marissa didn't have plastic surgury. Marissa didn't have the massive looks that the stars have today.

Marisa Monte is pure genius. Marissa has no talent. she needs some meds. marissa marchant is not record label material. Marissa doesn't have what it takes to get on record labels of any kind. that is why she isn't signed. she has no real musical talent.

Marissa, I mean George, I hate to break it to you, but Marisa Monte DOES write music as well as play on her own albums. She has a co-producer credit on several of her albums and has sole producer credit on the Tribalistas album and has also produced albums for other artists. For from being a record company creation, she stayed away from the recording industry for a few years at the beginning while she was getting her act together.
