Did he have that certain something that distinguishes the great from the pop also rans or did he simply have a good record collection, an Evil, Germanic, Rasputin type hypnotic ability and the knack for tweaking the right 70's pop nipples?

Milli Vanilli don't count in this right?

Pity. I was going to mention them, especially their ludicrous use of the phrase "little bitty finger".

Ah well. Boney M's "Rasputin" and "Ma Baker" are great, great singles. "I Can't Stand The Rain" by Eruption is thunderous. Downside: I think he gave us The Far Corporation.

he did the evil trick of adding his name onto the songwriting credits for Rivers of Babylon. it's basically a hymn! - how greedy can you get??

Well it's not like God needs the money.

What about Silver convention? he admitted recently in an interview that they were merely a practice run before his grand plan was put into operation. Get up and boogie and Fly robin fly are both disco gems though sadly lacking on quality lyrics.

The previous poster was bang on about Eruption though...........was "One way ticket" a product of the Farian foundation as well?

og poster wrong on this, right? what's the connection there, if any? maybe he was conflating behind-the-curtains german producers?

Milli Vanilli don't count in this right?

og poster way off on this too! though in 2002 making fun of milli vanilli was probably still en vogue. fab was on a recent episode of the questlove supreme podcast talking about that era, working with frank, etc. interesting times for sure.

andrew m., Tuesday, 23 January 2024 20:53 (one year ago)

Yeah never heard he had any connection to Silver Convention and I really doubt it

Josefa, Tuesday, 23 January 2024 21:31 (one year ago)

TIL the lyric in "Daddy Cool" is

She's crazy like a fool
Wild about Daddy Cool

...not "What about..."

Josefa, Tuesday, 23 January 2024 21:40 (one year ago)

always thought this dude was a POS, weren't Milli Vanilli basically two very broke kids who had no say in their own career, who actually *wanted* to sing on their albums? didn't he prefer working with undocumented immigrants because it meant he didn't have to pay them fairly? I mean yeah some cool music but nah this guy deserves to rot
