Progressive artists are often the finest, Marisa Monte is not that creative

I like Marisa Monte, but her music is standard. she doesn't sing like Linda rondstadt and isn't mindblowing. but pleasant. Linda is a mentor of mine.
Marisa Monte is not high level, like blue note .
blue note records is a propaganda record label filled with nuts and insecure idiots..who just want to make money.
I don't care about them.
I like some of the writers that write Marisa's music. I like her voice.
but i write music and I am progressive and write alot of different types of music and play a couple instruments. So do alot of men who are not signed who blow these people away.
Record labels that you are focusing on, are not signing the best people. I suggest you look for more obscure talent.

Is Marisa Monte progressive and a composer? no, Tuesday, 9 August 2005 04:29 (twenty years ago)

like you?

I liked A Different Noise by Marissa. Pretty good album. THe George Harrison / Lenny kravitzx mash-up was pretty sweet.

Blue Note is a total joke of its previous self, sure, but there is nice stuff that comes through every once and a while. There is a lot of Kurt Elling that I love. Patricia Barber can be really great; she's definitely got a quirky sound that i dig. Jacky Terrasson is enjoyable too. Don't worry, Merzbow is still my favorite band of all time and all of that good stuff, but I do like a lot of the current Blue Note roster. Delmark is better for that kind of level of jazz at this point, as far as I'm concerned -- what with their recent winning Deep Blue Organ Trio, Ted Sirota's Rebel Souls, Jeff Parker, Bobby Broom and Frank Catalano releases. But then, I'm a Chicago guy. Blue Note's ok, tho, i can dig it.

Stormy, I think I asked you on another thread (but didn't see if you had responded) how that new Jeff Parker album is?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 04:50 (twenty years ago)

honestly, can we ban marissa or something. or at least teach her that starting new threads is not the answer

nervous (cochere), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 04:56 (twenty years ago)

I haven't heard Jeff's new one, jaymc. I'm pretty sure I must have been posting about his first solo record Like Coping, which I finally picked up a few months back. And that is really really good. I have heard a few tracks from his new one -- WBEZ was actually hitting it hard for a while there, god bless 'em -- but have not heard the album in its entirety.

hey marissa, will you cover some Crystal Gayle songs?

kingfish (Kingfish), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 06:07 (twenty years ago)

did you notice how beautiful all the people are in the music industry. when I looked at Marissa Marchant's face, my first thought is I know why she didn't get signed. Marissa is an ordnary looking girl. Norah Jones is stunning and Marissa is jealous of her good looks and extraordinary talent.
Marissa doesn't have a signature sound like Norah. Norah is a phenomenon.
all these people are incredible.
The music industry right now, is incredible. they are signing only super talented people. couldn't you tell who is more talented? Marisa Monte's voice is far better. and even though Marisa Monte doesn't write or arrange music, she is still superior because of her looks and superior vocals. Marissa Marchant is a rejected demo. the record people know what they are doing. They rejected Mariss Marchant and people like her because she isn't good looking enough and isn't super great like the signed artists you hear on the radio...Marissa is lacking in talent.that is obvious.

even though Marisa Monte doesn't write or arrange music,
I addressed these misunderstanding on your other thread.

Whoa, deep mindfuck here, Marissa George Marissa.

But then I always feel kind of good after a nice deep mindfuck.

Confounded (Confounded), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 17:47 (twenty years ago)

the term is "groovy mindfuck"

Fetchboy (Felcher), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 17:48 (twenty years ago)

well fuck

i released an album last year via a well known (ahem) 'indie' 'label'.

it didn't do very well. i got dropped.

although i dig MM's grassroots marketing strategy and accept that she may well be completely hatstand, for her sake i really hope she's coming up with some mindblowing music for us to discover. It would be a shame to back up this amusing self-promotion lark with something a bit mediocre.

as those a&r whores say: 'talent without persistence is a shameful waste, persistence without talent is a pain in the ass.'

assholes. what the fuck do they know eh Marissa?

There but for the grace of George go you, eedd.

k/l (Ken L), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 19:11 (twenty years ago)

she may well be completely hatstand

first time i'm encountered this phrase. I shall now adopt it.
