From the NYTimes story about the mansion in Manhattan being sold for $50 million:

"Lenny Kravitz, the rock star and budding designer, has visited the house twice, said Mamdouh Nasr, the owner of an ice cream truck that has parked for 28 years on the corner of 82nd Street and Fifth Avenue, just steps from the mansion's front door.

To Mr. Nasr, it's clear evidence that the musician, who enjoys buying and fixing up real estate, is buying the home. "To this guy time is money," Mr. Nasr said. "So why he comes inside two times?"

$50 million? Budding designer? Fixing up real estate? Is Lenny some sort of mogol in waiting?

hahaha.

got into a stupid fight w/my wife after asking this very question over breakfast and the newspaper today.

"he's had HIT RECORDS. maybe he invested well, did some commercials in Japan. anyway you're such a knowitall about music..."

whatever.

I thought the stuff about him starting a design firm was kinda cute. Lenny Kravitz Interior Decorator.

It may be that his Jeffersons royalties are higher than we presumed.

"To this guy time is money," Mr. Nasr said. "So why he comes inside two times?"

This part cracks me up! Like Lenny is so busy working all of the time that he's not going to take a second look at a $50 million house he might buy.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 18:37 (twenty years ago)

Maybe he's going to produce a reality show that chronicles the restoration and redecoration. Then he can write the whole thing off.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 18:39 (twenty years ago)

...like the public has written him off

michael burble, Wednesday, 10 August 2005 18:57 (twenty years ago)

budding designer?

He'd probably just be a partner in a parnership set up to purchase it, with himself providing the visibility and star power necessary to sell the house, and other investors actually paying for it or putting down a combination of cash and bank loans, using the income from the doctor's office to partially service the debt until they can sell it. It's a pretty safe bet for them - a fifth avenue mansion isn't going to decline *that* much in price unless there's another 9/11 type of thing.

well kravitz has been involved with the VH1 fashion awards for years now... he's probably getting tons of appearance fees and whatnot

as if fifth avenue mansions declined in price after that first 9/11 type thing!

(i mean, they might have. for, oh, five or six weeks.)

According to the article he's going to break a record on the price. Then he's going to invest millions more on top of that. It'd take a miracle not to lose money on this deal.

The title misled me into thinking that this thread was going to open w/a picture of Lenny out of his mind on blow and pissing on a cop or something.
