I know there was a brief thread on this, but this article is slightly funny to me....

Now, I thought that rastafarianism was a pretty "african-descent only" religion. Am I way off on this? If so, school my ignorant ass...please.

And isn't she ordained as a priest in some rebel sect of Catholicism?

Gad, she's unreal. Sinead? Please fuck off. K thnx bye.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 14:26 (twenty years ago)

listen to 1,000 reggae records and you'll get the idea.

Outsider Enter Port City (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 14:26 (twenty years ago)

But this is why we love her!

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 14:27 (twenty years ago)

why am i feeling like i've already downloaded this and have it on my hard drive? is it already floating about?
can't say i'm too interested in giving it a listen, but it's comedy gold in any event.
the track she did with Skip "Little Axe" wasn't so bad, but she still bleats too much for anything that isn't woolen

rentboy (rentboy), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 14:28 (twenty years ago)

she's done reggae-ish stuff before...

Outsider Enter Port City (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 14:32 (twenty years ago)

"Teachings of Rastafari" = wtf, he was this dude! His "teachings" included such valuable spiritual ideas as "I am the emperor," "hey Europe are you people seriously pretending you didn't notice what Italy just did," and "no, I don't think land reform is the best idea right now."

Anyway I can imagine Sinead's voice working decently for reggae. She just needs to chill out and not make a whole life-change statement out of every little thing she's interested in for two years. I feel bad for her friends: they'd be all like "I've been doing a bit of gardening, I'm really enjoying it" and she's be all like "YES BUT I HAVE FOUND THE NEW TRUE SPIRIT OF THE UNIVERSE, THROUGH GARDENING."

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 14:33 (twenty years ago)

she's done reggae-ish stuff before...

yeah, but i'm thinking i just grabbed something new from her, where she was covering tracks by the likes of gregory isaacs and max romeo, etc

maybe i just read it. i'll have a look when i'm home though, cos now i'm genuinely curious

rentboy (rentboy), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 14:35 (twenty years ago)

brianiac (briania), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 15:35 (twenty years ago)

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 16:01 (twenty years ago)

I don't really see what's "crazy" about this.

No reason it should be bad, remember Serge?

WTFEVER. This album is going to fucking RULE.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 16:55 (twenty years ago)

The thing with that tearing-up-the-Pope's-picture thing that is the absolute utmost lame is that nobody ever talks about how fucking RAW and OUTSTANDING her performance of "War" was.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 16:56 (twenty years ago)

Aren't people tired of being shocked by Sinead O'Connor? I mean, she's been weird in the head for a much longer period of time than in the arrow-slit sized window when she seemed sane.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 17:02 (twenty years ago)

nick - totally, totally OTM.

Is there anyplace you've been able to find it?

Big Loud Mountain Ape (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 17:38 (twenty years ago)

in the vaults of the Vatican?

Outsider Enter Port City (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 17:40 (twenty years ago)

Does anyone even know why she tore up the Pope's picture? Sorry if you already know, but she was addressing the issue of Irish(?) priests molesting little boys, years before the U.S. scandals. And the Pope knew all about it. If anyone had bothered to listen to her, the U.S. might not have had the priest scandal awhile back.

That said, I think this album could be great...

her thing with burning spear at the jammies was supposedly the coolest thing since socks

sinead played at the one festival i went to this year.
she was so good.
a real presence on stage, and her vocals have lost none of their heart stopping/melting power.
never been a big fan, but she really won me over ..

mark e, Thursday, 23 October 2014 17:46 (eleven years ago)

i was never a big fan but only bc i never really listened much. i began to realize recently that there's never been a sinead song i've heard that i haven't liked. which was mostly her early stuff and a couple of her collaborations (that song from 'in the name of the father' and something with afro celt sound system.)
