If I never go into a restaurant that's playing "Buena Vista Social Club" again, I'll be ecstatic.

Ambient music - you know, the type that you hear in banks, cafes, the Gap. Search and destroy, from BVSC to Muzak.

I heard that Hefner song with Amelia Fletcher in the Gap once. I didn't buy any pants as a result.

I'm with you on Buena Vista Coffee Club - but you wuv Amelia Fletcher surely!!

Inescapable a couple of years ago but now I'd find it quite sweet if I heard it again - Air's Moon Safari (also it never made me dislike the record).

Hugely enjoyed Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits in the cafe I was in hungover yesterday morning.

Higely didnt enjoy TWO run-throughs of OK Computer in the pub on Thursday night. Nuff respect Thom but it's hardly big-night-out music.

how about hearing Tahiti 80 walking into Structure?! I don't know what i was doing there, but I immediately walked out. I love the song, but hate the fact that a stupid ass chain like Structure is rockin it.

Holy carp! This reminds me! I was in a Starbucks playing Robert Johnson a few weeks ago!

I don't really hear "Muzak" anymore. Muzak LLC actually provides much of the music you hear in public spaces and stores, but outside the dearly departed WTC, I haven't heard any Muzak Muzak (blanded- out versions of popular songs) in a long while.

I kinda liked it when I was in the WTC: It was always a twisted treat coming in the morning every day and hearing some new song massacreed in the elevators. The typical response from most people was a groan.

I used to joke that if some freak accident, every GAP store in the world burned down, Jamiroquai would be out of a job.

The Japanese restaurant I used to frequent in Annapolis often played some dynamite MOR J-pop, none of which I can recall now.

For the record, I absolutely love that Hefner song with Amelia Fletcher. Good stuff can be overplayed though. I like Air's Moon Safari very much, but I think I've heard enough of it in stores and on TV shows to last me for the next 15 years.

Slightly arsey to have a pop at BVSC - a very fine record which has been unfortunately done to death by MCWs does not equal mindless muzak.

Although there are a lot of things MS or I could say about World Circuit in general.

I draw the line at Moby. Same goes for that Cafe Del Mar/ Supper Club- tripe. So that's the new muzak?!

Apparently you aren't allowed to listen to anything but Starbucks supplied CDs at Starbucks. I happen to live above a Starbucks (I know, lucky me) and I once went in to grab a coffee and, lo and behold, King tubby meets the Rockers Uptown was playing. I asked the "barista" behind the counter about it and they damn near jumped out of their skin with fear that I was going to bust them for listening to something they were actually enjoying. It's a travisty what goes on in that place.
