bah. Just 'cause the Village Voice doesn't ask tough questions like this you all think you can ignore it!

(congrats to the ILMassive who participated in Pazz&Jop, I'm looking forward to reading it)

Cinderella, maybe? Has anyone ever seen Flame? Is it any good?

Arthur, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You think you jest, but Oasis are Slade for sure. Wonderwall= Everyday. Gazelles= Bovverboots. C'Mon Feel The Noize= C'Mon Feel The Noize. Oasis were fucking genius at Shepherds Bush in September, to my great surprise as they never were before. But really no one ever sounded like Noddy. Arthur, Flame is a truly suicidal movie for a top selling teen band to make, in that it's unusually honest about the process, but it's as good a take on the seedy underbelly of r'n'r as the long underrated That'll Be The Day. Unfortunately there's lots and lots of Don Powell, and you really can't make out a word he's mumbling, loike. Dunno if it was made before or after his famous amnesia inducing car accident. Alan Lake is fantastically seedy as some kind of biz reptile. It's the curly hair. No one has hair like that these days.

Cinderella's debut certainly is a decent stab at it, though they're a bit dumber. Kiss = Slade by Simpson & Bruckheimer

Slade are good, but i don't think necessarily Gallagher + co were aiming for that comparison, which is why i added the 'har har' - more of a dig at Oasis. the 'Beatles copyists' tag i always disagreed with, except in their lame attempts at 60s nostalgia (the Be Here Now album cover etc)

OASIS EAT NODDY'S DUMP

Quiet Riot! Duh!

Sean Carruthers, Wednesday, 13 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I was always told Quiet Riot is the logical answer to this question too...though I've never heard Slade. It's far more funny to me that my older cousin made fun of me for weeks for writing "Quit Riot" on my school folder. It seems so adequate now.
