scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 23:49 (twenty years ago)

adding the "da" there just made it infinitely worse scott

strng hlkngtn, Tuesday, 16 August 2005 23:53 (twenty years ago)

so bad

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 23:54 (twenty years ago)

and i know damn well you remember how inescapable "cold beverage" was here back then

strng hlkngtn, Tuesday, 16 August 2005 23:54 (twenty years ago)

One of my friends played in a band that opened for G Love at one of our campus functions. Said friend got onstage wearing a pink scarf and still managed to pull girls.

This is possibly the most orthoganal defense of a band ever: "They're all right because they allowed a friend of mine to use his metrosexuality to pick up chicks."

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 23:55 (twenty years ago)

metrosexuals have no problem with that anyway!

strng hlkngtn, Tuesday, 16 August 2005 23:56 (twenty years ago)

Hahahahahahahahahaha perhaps I should have painted the full picture:

Unnaturally hairy dude who is really, really prone to sweating in an open shirt wearing rouge over his five o'clock shadow and a pink scarf.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 23:58 (twenty years ago)

Now that's a man of passion.

As for the feebs in the subject line -- dear god, what trash. As useful as, I dunno, the Fun Lovin' Criminals.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 23:58 (twenty years ago)

NED?!

(HAHAHA XP)

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 23:59 (twenty years ago)

was it me?!

HAHAH DAMMIT

strng hlkngtn, Tuesday, 16 August 2005 23:59 (twenty years ago)

Ned, I think you need to apologize to Fun Lovin' Criminals!

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 23:59 (twenty years ago)

GEGGY TIZZAH DUDEZ

strng hlkngtn, Wednesday, 17 August 2005 00:01 (twenty years ago)

all these dudes can burn in hell with jason mraz

strng hlkngtn, Wednesday, 17 August 2005 00:02 (twenty years ago)

I'm with Strongo here, sorry Dan. Just because FLC sampled obscurer Tones on Tail songs than "Go!" and had Ian McCulloch sing with them doesn't excuse those feebs.

Hm, and I'm not THAT hairy, surely. But the rouge and pink scarf do have a certain something.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 00:07 (twenty years ago)

But you and me, baby, ain't nothin' but mammals.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 00:08 (twenty years ago)

OH wait, I've confused them with The Bloodhound Gang. Never mind, fuck 'em.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 00:10 (twenty years ago)

FLC were runnin' around robbin' banks. All whacked. On, er, well, you know the rest...

rogermexico (rogermexico), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 00:14 (twenty years ago)

OH wait, I've confused them with The Bloodhound Gang. Never mind, fuck 'em.

And thus sanity is restored.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 00:15 (twenty years ago)

Fun Lovin' Criminals were like a fun-hating version of Len.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 00:17 (twenty years ago)

was that len chick hot? i cant remember

strng hlkngtn, Wednesday, 17 August 2005 00:18 (twenty years ago)

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 00:18 (twenty years ago)

was that len chick hot?

She was! And her prgeeo friend in the video was hot, too!

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 00:19 (twenty years ago)

"prgeeo" holy shit, I need typing lessons.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 00:21 (twenty years ago)

oh man, there was this big huge controversy in mtl around the time of that len song!! (cuz they were from here!) people were saying that the chick from len was in an incestuous relationship with her brother, who was also in the band!! and whose name was dj burger pimp!!

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 00:22 (twenty years ago)

there were some wild accusations made about dj burger pimp!!!

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 00:22 (twenty years ago)

yeah i remembered possible len video wood but i couldnt be sure

xpost: oh yeah i remember that! it made her hotter

TS: G Love vs Buck 65 vs Basehead

Bobby Peru (Bobby Peru), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 00:23 (twenty years ago)

Now Bobby needs to apologize to Basehead!

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 00:25 (twenty years ago)

i probably shouldnt have admitted that

strng hlkngtn, Wednesday, 17 August 2005 00:26 (twenty years ago)

As for the feebs in the subject line -- dear god, what trash. As useful as, I dunno, the Fun Lovin' Criminals.

Hahaha, that's who I usually associate them with! "Here come the clowns, yeah yeah, the rodeo clowns, yeah yeah yeah..." Good God, summer of '98. Them, FLC getting whacked on Scooby Snacks, God Lives Underwater in your mouth, that band where the all the guy wants to do is look like you even though he doesn't know who you are, and those fellows are symbolic of that summer.

G. Love's autograph was and probably still is in the bathroom of the McDonald's here on the Tennessee Strip after he did a show next door at Floyd's Music Store.

Ian Riese-Moraine: a casualty of social estrangement. (Eastern Mantra), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 00:27 (twenty years ago)

I loved the bit inthe Len video with their pregnant friend. They're all romping through town in the sun and LOOK SUNSHINE GIVE YOU BABIES *grin*!!!!!!! PLUR

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 00:28 (twenty years ago)

haha i think len was probably PLUR's largest dissemination in american culture

strng hlkngtn, Wednesday, 17 August 2005 00:29 (twenty years ago)

And Len, too, I meant to mention Len and I momentarily forgot them. For some reason, my mother thought it was the weirdest song ever. To me it just sounded like your quintessential summer one-hit wonder with a bit of retro flair inspired by Smash Mouth's breakout hit the previous year. (Jeez, '97! That, Sugar Ray, Duncan Sheik, Savage Garden -- I'm sensing a pattern here!)

Ian Riese-Moraine: a casualty of social estrangement. (Eastern Mantra), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 00:29 (twenty years ago)

ahhh all this len talk is taking away the g love horror

strng hlkngtn, Wednesday, 17 August 2005 00:30 (twenty years ago)

Those bands were halfway-symbolic of the sound of the summer of '97 for me (the other half consisting of assorted mainstream electronica and trip-hop -- Sneaker Pimps, Hooverphonic, The Crystal Method, The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, and their ilk). xpost to myself

Ian Riese-Moraine: a casualty of social estrangement. (Eastern Mantra), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 00:32 (twenty years ago)

i think i saw a new g.love caca cola commercial today, that's why i thought of him. it may have been a lookalike. that len song was genius. everyone knows that. and i didn't mind that first FLC song with the horns. their theme song kinda. but then they moved to the u.k. right? and became summershedsuperstars or something? g.love on that live acoustic show on pbs!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!

Heheh, this thread is wending its way across a strange minefield. Donut Ferry to thread.

Anyway, whoever mentioned Basehead in comparison to the horrors above needs a beating.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 00:49 (twenty years ago)

Ned, I can't remember, have you heard that Me Phi Me album?

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 00:51 (twenty years ago)

Yes I have, though the memories are dim.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 00:53 (twenty years ago)

it was a sunshine-pop/classical guitar/rap/black fraternity cult/krisna hybrid with a dash of honey. came out the same year as spiral walls containing autumns of light, so it ended up being one of the more normal rap albums of 1992.

WTF Scott - where are you getting this shit? Where are these lists coming from, eh??? I have some of my sister's stuff in my house - she has a lot of nineties crap I don't listen to. That doesn't mean I listen to it or like it, but even if I did....what business is it of yours posting everything that was found in my apartment? I'd really like to know. I have thousands and thousands of things, I guess some jealous misogynist indie boys really have a problem with it, but aren't willing to report a crime. That makes you an accessory.

The Popish Plot (dymaxia), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 20:45 (twenty years ago)

I mean, ILM has turned into the pathetic indie boy gaslighting board. And you wonder why only fake women post here.

The Popish Plot (dymaxia), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 20:46 (twenty years ago)

They got into my itunes as well...at work and at home.

I want confessions....NOW.

The Popish Plot (dymaxia), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 20:51 (twenty years ago)

i still don't think i've heard that len song, to my knowledge. maybe on the good dr. bill's stycast? it was either not a very big hit in the midwest, or i was just out of it. (probably the latter.)

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 20:52 (twenty years ago)

but i have heard BABY GOT SAUCE.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 20:52 (twenty years ago)

Your baby ain't sweet like mine.

Okay, I'll bite...

I saw G Love do a SURPRISE SPECIAL GUEST APPEARANCE...with...THE FUN LOVIN' CRIMINALS.

This was at a GZA show in LONDON where GZA did not appear and left us with NEW KINGDOM and said LOVERS of CRIMINAL FUN.

The pain!

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 20:56 (twenty years ago)

Cough. I thought you guys were soooo tough. But you have to stalk under other people's identities. What balls you have.

The Popish Plot (dymaxia), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 20:59 (twenty years ago)

We're ignoring you until you decide to make sense.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 21:04 (twenty years ago)

You know damn well what's going on. A bunch of scrawny unemployed greasy motherfuckers have been getting into my shit for years (and my sister's shit, apparently). Probably for cash or drugs. Then they try to 'share' it all underground, as if it's a commodity, and giggle about it behind my back. It's a fucking gang rape, and don't think I don't have evidence. They think they're soooo tough, but none of them (save a few) have had the balls to tell me directly what they know and where they got this stuff.

Grow some balls and tell me what you know and where you got it, motherfuckers. You're not going to get away with it for very much longer.

I couldn't give a shit about my reputation on some lousy boring all-male board, so fuck it.

The Popish Plot (dymaxia), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 21:08 (twenty years ago)

You're going to be sorry you ever used to internet to stalk and trade information about a person, treating every aspect of their life as if it's a commodity.

The Popish Plot (dymaxia), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 21:09 (twenty years ago)

I think you're looking for the "I Love Marrissa" board...

John Justen (johnjusten), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 21:12 (twenty years ago)

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 22:25 (twenty years ago)

maybe scott found a g love cd in her sisters flat and decided to start the thread.

im sure her shit is being shared underground...to anyone who wants to take a walk down the sewer.

ambrose (ambrose), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 23:04 (twenty years ago)

Oh please, would you stop with the stealing-peoples-identities gaslighting game?

It doesn't work. If you're trying to force a mental breakdown or isolation, it's not working - it only confirms everyone's suspicions. You're actually better off ignoring me...oh wait, that doesn't work either.

When people's identities are stolen on this board, no one's identity should be taken at face value.

Fake Ambrose - stop lying. I'll bet you've taken a "walk down that sewer" or at least know something about it.

I've got you now. I hereby claim this thread until you confess your crimes. In plain English, please, not through indirect gaslighting tactics or "pretending to ignore" or whatever other cliche Orange tactics you've got in your bag.

I don't make sense? How bout if I post the Bill of Rights? Maybe that doesn't make sense to a bunch of police state apologists, either.

whiteout (bobnope), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 23:12 (twenty years ago)

You just shouldn't have obsessed with people to begin with, and now you're projecting blame - once again. That's because you're a bunch of Calvinists who can't face your guilt - if you did, that would be tantamount to admitting you'll burn in hell. So you make yourself into the 'elect' - stealing people's identities and co-opting anything and everything you can if it means you can avoid facing your guilt.

whiteout (bobnope), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 23:15 (twenty years ago)

oh i thought it was a new troll

three years pass...

self-titled album actually has good, relaxed playing/tones, and decent flows on it. some good atmospheric moments on the later tracks, like on 'some peoples like that.' nice, dry tremolo on the electric guitar and easy, fluid drumming. also, massively hated on by ILX = worth something in my book.

Plenty of hate upthread -- c'mon; these guys have plenty of fine tunes.

Electric Mile is a fine album that gets my most replays -- most noted is the variety of styles and the always engaging contributions on the Hammond from John Medeski (and far funkier than Dr. John delivered on Yeah, it's that Easy).

As for the "arrogance" everybody seems to be clamoring about, his genesis is rooted in Hip Hop, and self-aggrandizement is a near prerequisite. BFD.

But i understand he's a polarizing figure; hell, his best bud, Jack Johnson one of the most cringe-worthy musicians i've ever heard.
