Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 18 August 2005 17:02 (twenty years ago)

He's like a hip-hop Geri Halliwell.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 18 August 2005 17:08 (twenty years ago)

Byron Crawford is going to have a field day with this.

mike h. (mike h.), Thursday, 18 August 2005 17:17 (twenty years ago)

Majorly cool.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 18 August 2005 17:18 (twenty years ago)

That's homosexualist and incestuousist - he loves his fag cousin, the fag.

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Thursday, 18 August 2005 17:20 (twenty years ago)

yay for kanye...that's awesome.

Doesn't M@tt He1geson Deserve A Cool, Funny Login Name? (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 18 August 2005 17:20 (twenty years ago)

I think this is awesome and I wish more people would follow his lead. I hate it when I'm enjoying a song and the singer/mc starts complaining about "faggots." I understand that this is not a particularly edgy position to take, but that's how I am. I find guys who hate on "faggots" creepy and generally do not wanna listen to them creeping me out.

Banana Nutrament (ghostface), Thursday, 18 August 2005 17:21 (twenty years ago)

Can't wait until he gets around to ending world hunger.

cdwill, Thursday, 18 August 2005 17:22 (twenty years ago)

This is nice to see but now I can't get the image of him running around growling "LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK AT ME!" out of my head; THANKS DOM.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Thursday, 18 August 2005 17:22 (twenty years ago)

It would be really cool to see him back this up by refusing to give beats or production or guest spots to any rapper who continues to hate on gays.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 18 August 2005 17:23 (twenty years ago)

good for him.

deej.., Thursday, 18 August 2005 17:23 (twenty years ago)

More like KanYAY.

Behold I will do a New Thing Chapel JESUS IS LORD (Matt Chesnut), Thursday, 18 August 2005 17:23 (twenty years ago)

It would be really cool to see him back this up by refusing to give beats or production or guest spots to any rapper who continues to hate on gays.

yeah, like his one-time boss jay-z.

that said, good on ya kanye.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Thursday, 18 August 2005 17:24 (twenty years ago)

> It would be really cool to see him back this up by refusing to give beats or production or guest spots to any rapper who continues to hate on gays.

Yes.

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Thursday, 18 August 2005 17:25 (twenty years ago)

Can't wait until he gets around to ending world hunger.

right you are, cdwill - if you personally can't cure a problem all by yourself, there's certainly no point in saying anything about it!

Banana Nutrament (ghostface), Thursday, 18 August 2005 17:26 (twenty years ago)

"The Food" by Common and Kanye West

HALFWAY THERE ALREADY!

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Thursday, 18 August 2005 17:28 (twenty years ago)

oddly enuf his current single is just about as misogynist and irritating as it gets.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Thursday, 18 August 2005 17:29 (twenty years ago)

You mean the one about the girl they call "minivan"?

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 18 August 2005 17:30 (twenty years ago)

Yeah "Golddiggers" is prolly my least-favorite single he's released.

It would be really cool to see him back this up by refusing to give beats or production or guest spots to any rapper who continues to hate on gays.

While I would admire a stand like that, I don't think this statement needs to be 'backed up.' It is meaningful on its own.

deej.., Thursday, 18 August 2005 17:30 (twenty years ago)

Yo, what's good people?

That's something that's just been boiling in me for a minute. Like I knew I couldnt bust with that on "College Dropout" because people going to call you a nancy boy or whatever.

So I figure i would bust it out on MTV basically after my videos showing woman-love made my position on my OWN shit clear. Like I would hate to see a female fan take this the wrong way, nahmean... i'm likin' gays, i'm not lovin' them.

But make sure you pick up my latest joint, "Late Registration," it's all jams, can't you never forgot me.

That's your boy....

Kanye

Kanye West (Confounded), Thursday, 18 August 2005 17:30 (twenty years ago)

Afuckingmen. Can't remember the last time I applauded a rapper.

Je4nne ƒur¥ (Je4nne Fury), Thursday, 18 August 2005 17:33 (twenty years ago)

While I would admire a stand like that, I don't think this statement needs to be 'backed up.' It is meaningful on its own.

Well, yeah. I was just sayin'...

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 18 August 2005 17:33 (twenty years ago)

This is nice to see but now I can't get the image of him running around growling "LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK AT ME!" out of my head; THANKS DOM.

That would be the most awesome thing ever.

Leon C. (Ex Leon), Thursday, 18 August 2005 17:34 (twenty years ago)

Can't remember the last time I applauded a rapper.

just clap your hands to the beat

pappawheelie II, Thursday, 18 August 2005 17:36 (twenty years ago)

Did he have an explosive bloody poo all over the wall behind him or wtf?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 18 August 2005 17:44 (twenty years ago)

Of course he likes the gays, he's wearing George Michael's clothes.

Did he have an explosive bloody poo all over the wall behind him or wtf?

Right, that's my crystal-pure life ruined in one handy sentence.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Thursday, 18 August 2005 17:46 (twenty years ago)

wow. it took till 2005. (NB am I the only one who remembers Ice-T saying similar shit around '91?)

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Thursday, 18 August 2005 17:52 (twenty years ago)

Ice T is producing Hassle da Hoff though, so...

pappawheelie II, Thursday, 18 August 2005 17:54 (twenty years ago)

Oh, and he's being coy about the spontaneous poosplotion, too. Just look at that grin. "Oh, silly me, did I forget to wear me nappies today, mate?"

Somehow he's also bizarrely become Australian overnight as well.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 18 August 2005 17:58 (twenty years ago)

it broke my heart the day i found out that was an internet hoax.

On Second Thought, I'm Sticking With Plain-Old M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 18 August 2005 18:05 (twenty years ago)

M@tt, don't go breaking my heart.

pappawheelie II, Thursday, 18 August 2005 18:06 (twenty years ago)

"Gold Diggers" is the first song where I've liked his rapping. Sure, the content is questionable, but this is a vast improvement over "our girls is the models/they coochies is the juiciest" in every way.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Thursday, 18 August 2005 18:10 (twenty years ago)

"our girls is the models/they coochies is the juiciest"

i hate bela fleck

marissa fan, Thursday, 18 August 2005 18:12 (twenty years ago)

I thought this said Kanye Loves The Grays! and I momentarily wondered if Jason Falkner would be on the album too.

Smetric, Thursday, 18 August 2005 18:54 (twenty years ago)

"our girls is the models/they coochies is the juiciest"

Thats a chorus, its not really an example of Kanye's rapping.

deej.., Thursday, 18 August 2005 18:56 (twenty years ago)

Gold digger is awesome dudes

tikki tikki tembo no sa rembo chari bari ruchi pip peri pembo (Adrian Langston), Thursday, 18 August 2005 19:09 (twenty years ago)

the new album is really average. mainly cos we're now used to his style, and kanye raps all over it...needs more guests! homophobic ones included...

paulhw (paulhw), Thursday, 18 August 2005 19:15 (twenty years ago)

Kanye West ft Ian Brown, Elephant Man, and The Zutons- Closets Are For Clothes

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 18 August 2005 19:30 (twenty years ago)

That line's only used once, though - doesn't a chorus need to be repeated (to be a chorus)?

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Thursday, 18 August 2005 19:31 (twenty years ago)

That line's only used once, though - doesn't a chorus need to be repeated (to be a chorus)?

hmm....i dunno...the one song I can think of right now is "The Whole of the Law" by the Only Ones, where the "that's it, that's the law that's the whole of the law" chorus comes in right at the end and then the song's done, but it's still obviously the chorus.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 18 August 2005 19:37 (twenty years ago)

the new album is really average. mainly cos we're now used to his style, and kanye raps all over it...needs more guests! homophobic ones included...

It's leaked? Are you sure you aren't listening to the same bootleg that fools one person per week?

deej.., Thursday, 18 August 2005 20:21 (twenty years ago)

Look, it's leaked. There may be one or two changes, but the 20 track "bootleg" has at least 15 album tracks, according to hiphopdx.com

paulhw (paulhw), Thursday, 18 August 2005 20:59 (twenty years ago)

I never accepted the crticism that he was a mushmouthed pretender. But these two singles have got me worried: both have sucked. "Gold Diggers" - textbook example of a sample stealing the spotlight.

As for the original post...role models and saints inspire suspicion in this contrarian and faggot. Always doubt someone's good intentions, I always say.

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Thursday, 18 August 2005 21:11 (twenty years ago)

"That's your boy...."

This still kills me everytime :-)

Gerard (Gerard), Thursday, 18 August 2005 21:50 (twenty years ago)

jay-z, game, paul wall, jamie foxx, lupe fiasco, adam levine, nas, consequence, glc, cam'ron, common

..needs more guests?

hold tight the private caller (mwah), Thursday, 18 August 2005 21:58 (twenty years ago)

It would be really cool to see him back this up by refusing to give beats or production or guest spots to any rapper who continues to hate on gays.

Yeah, them niggas need to chill with that shit.

The Ghost of Issues Abound Here (Dan Perry), Thursday, 18 August 2005 22:06 (twenty years ago)

Does this mean Kanye's tracks from Chinese Democracy are going to be dropped from the final tracklisting? : (

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 18 August 2005 22:15 (twenty years ago)

This is nice to see but now I can't get the image of him running around growling "LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK AT ME!" out of my head; THANKS DOM.

don't tempt fate!

aw kanye. 'diamonds' was very very gay.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 18 August 2005 22:23 (twenty years ago)

oh, fine, I'll bite: what exactly is wrong with that idea, Dan?

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Thursday, 18 August 2005 22:28 (twenty years ago)

actually, maybe I'm misreading you. are you saying issues abound w/the idea of Kanye not giving beats to gay-bashing rappers (understandable)? or that issues abound with ILM (completely understandable, I'm just curious which ones you have in mind)? or something else entirely?

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Thursday, 18 August 2005 22:31 (twenty years ago)

The issue is wanting to get a group of people who don't really have a problem referring to themselves and their friends with a word derived from an intensely derogatory slur to stop using a derogatory slur to describe another (not necessarily disjunct) group of people. That's the entire reason why I used the word "nigga" in that post.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Thursday, 18 August 2005 22:37 (twenty years ago)

OK, that's what I was confused about. thanks.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Thursday, 18 August 2005 22:39 (twenty years ago)

I was having a Bill Cosby moment.

The Ghost of White ILMers Who Boost Hip-Hop Shout SHOCKER In Unison As They Are , Thursday, 18 August 2005 22:42 (twenty years ago)

haha no, it makes sense. I just didn't pick up on it at first.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Thursday, 18 August 2005 22:44 (twenty years ago)

haha "at first"

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Thursday, 18 August 2005 22:45 (twenty years ago)
