drug use at shows?

M83 and the Walkmen are coming to town soon, and I was considering dropping ecstasy for the show. I've rolled a few times at parties and such, but never at a show. Any special considerations I should make? Just buddy up and bring water???

Jamey Lewis (Jameys Burning), Friday, 19 August 2005 02:06 (twenty years ago)

Save the ecstasy for when Orthrelm comes to town.

Brooker Buckingham (Brooker B), Friday, 19 August 2005 02:22 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, not really the show to do ecstasy at.

BeeOK (boo radley), Friday, 19 August 2005 02:23 (twenty years ago)

M83 already sounds like ecstasy. It seems like rolling would just make it redundant.

Mickey (modestmickey), Friday, 19 August 2005 02:49 (twenty years ago)

Don't do drugs. They're for sissies.

Voodoo Child, Friday, 19 August 2005 03:13 (twenty years ago)

that is totally a waste of good ecstacy. get your ass to a club damn you.

strng hlkngtn, Friday, 19 August 2005 03:15 (twenty years ago)

haha

I agree you need the engery of the club to really have a blast. Haven't touched the stuff for years now, but it was fun. I did do it at the Happy Mondays' "Call the Cops" show and have no regreats besides not really remembering the concert...

BeeOK (boo radley), Friday, 19 August 2005 03:24 (twenty years ago)

there isn't enough drug use at shows.

i saw blonde redhead once and everyone was just standing around. i have more fun seeing umphrees mcgee or the disco biscuts, not because the music is good (it isn't), but because you can get completely fucking plowed, feel at home, and dance with all the other drunken drugged out morons.

downside: dirty hippies

JD from CDepot, Friday, 19 August 2005 04:36 (twenty years ago)

drug use at shows is very very rude.

Kevin Erickson, Friday, 19 August 2005 06:08 (twenty years ago)

I read that as "drug use at shows is the rule."

walter kranz (walterkranz), Friday, 19 August 2005 06:49 (twenty years ago)

no regreats besides not really remembering the concert...

haha! This is my one big problem with E, the 'black-hole' after-effect, I guess the mind is getting so zapped it forgets to store anything into your memory.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Friday, 19 August 2005 10:47 (twenty years ago)

drug usebeing sober at shows is very very rude.

you're so right. this is why i stay home, pregnancy+drug use don't mix.

I assumed this thread was about drug use by the artists at shows

Diddyismus the Blind (of Alexandria) (Dada), Friday, 19 August 2005 11:03 (twenty years ago)

Me too. Anyone got stories?

Keith C (lync0), Friday, 19 August 2005 11:15 (twenty years ago)

i went to a dreadful aftershow party once with the l3v3ll3rs. in livingston, of all places. they had the world's smallest scrag-end of hash and no rizlas. i had to give them mine. wow, it was depressing.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 19 August 2005 11:44 (twenty years ago)

as for m83: man, you don't need E for that. trust me.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 19 August 2005 11:44 (twenty years ago)

I reckon it would intensify the blissed-out experience. But I'd rather save the pill for some proper beats.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Friday, 19 August 2005 12:33 (twenty years ago)

yes. when i saw m83 earlier this year, it was one enormous rush ... but not an energetic one. i think being on E and listening to M83 might just have led to me dancing about like a total twat and not enjoying it for what it was - rather than standing there in total awe, which is what i did.

m83 on acid could be fun ;)

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 19 August 2005 12:53 (twenty years ago)

someone gave me some damned damned serious devil weed at a blonde redhead show once...and the band were already on top form...when that stuff kicked in i could only stand and stare and try not to let my chest explode.

bb (bbrz), Friday, 19 August 2005 13:12 (twenty years ago)

Being on E at a rock venue seems like such a bad idea -- you'll start wandering around wanting to talk to everyone, but they'll all have their arms crossed and their eyes on the stage. It's an interactive drug, and there's no good interaction at rock shows. M83 = just smoke weed.

I'm mystified by this "black hole" discussion -- memories get kinda timewarped, but I've always been crystal clear on all the details.

notreallythingy, Friday, 19 August 2005 13:17 (twenty years ago)

For me, at the time everything seems so crystal clear, yes, but afterwards I find I can only remember tiny details, and have to really struggle to remember things like tunes or conversations.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Friday, 19 August 2005 14:14 (twenty years ago)

same here, I've never had an experience w/ forgetting anything on ecstasy. Blacked out on alcohol plenty of times, but I've always thought that one of ecstasy's saving graces was that you did remember everything. Especially the life stories told by/to perfect strangers.

I suppose you guys are right, maybe if m83 were headlining it'd be a better atmosphere, but things change a bit when the band is sandwiched between the Mates of State and the Walkmen.

However, Dungen and the Fiery Furnaces are the very next night. Dungen on ecstasy!

Acid would be pretty cool, but its kind of hard to find in Houston. Last time I got it it did the job, but wasn't a full hit on each sheet, so it (kind of) left something to be desired. That amount would've been perfect for a show, though.

Also, though, even x'd out I'm the chill type. I never dance, I usually just lay back, talk my ass off, and let the waves of euphoria wash over me. :) I don't even like listening to house music when I'm rolling. I've done it enough to where I'm sure I can handle myself at a show, so we'll see.

By the way, next time you're about to peak, turn on Mclusky's Support Systems. LOUD.

Jamey Lewis (Jameys Burning), Friday, 19 August 2005 14:20 (twenty years ago)

clubs and x is pretty shitty at this point. Everybody has been doing it so long they are all stupid and paranoid and shady. The pills are mostly meth, and everything is just dirt. Rolling at a show couldn't be any worse.

Davoson, Friday, 19 August 2005 15:10 (twenty years ago)

I am shocked that there are people this stupid.

Uhhh... the purpose of going to a show is to see good music. Get a life and stop trying so hard.

James G. Wert, Friday, 19 August 2005 20:00 (twenty years ago)

Sucka my dick, pal!

The King's English (sexyDancer), Friday, 19 August 2005 20:05 (twenty years ago)

yes. surely it's up to each individual to enjoy a gig in the way they see fit? christ, was i "trying so hard" by having a few beers at mogwai last night?

and, er, if you read the thread, you'll see that most people have said, naah, taking E at m83 would be a waste of time anyway.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 19 August 2005 20:10 (twenty years ago)

I saw I4n McK4y3 drink a coke once.

See good music? I suppose you're in favor of psychedelics then?

The King's English (sexyDancer), Monday, 22 August 2005 14:47 (twenty years ago)

i saw the fall on e at a big venue.. and pretty much just walked around looking for pretty girls all night. it was alot of fun though, i say go for it!!

iko iko, Monday, 22 August 2005 15:48 (twenty years ago)

watch what you eat before a show. think of your neighbors. do all the drugs you want.

kephm (kephm), Monday, 22 August 2005 22:37 (twenty years ago)

Anyone who does hard drugs or pharmaceuticals
deserves to self-destruct and get
holes in their brains.

The only non-lethal drugs are weed (which
can be baked into desserts or vaporized)
and mushrooms.

Soft drugs lead to REAL music and a long, healthy,
MUSICALLY talented life.

Time for you ecstacy-dependant non-musical
POSERS to wake the fuck up.

F (Ferg), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 00:07 (twenty years ago)

you should just go to the concert with nothing and then take whatever your friends have, that way you don't have to worry about it. but don't be rude and not pay them for whatever they gave you.

andy, Tuesday, 23 August 2005 01:05 (twenty years ago)

in retrospect, cocaine and gorky's zygotic mynci do not mix

The King's English (sexyDancer), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 01:11 (twenty years ago)

So then, what's the best drug for going to the symphony?

Edward Bax (EdBax), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 01:29 (twenty years ago)

lithium

you're at a show on molly now?

heh i wish. but molly doesn't actually work on me, apparently Effexor uses the same receptors in the brain and blocks all the fun.

was thinking "wow I wouldn't be able to deal" then remembered it's been at least 15 years since I had an E

acid does not work either. a friend offered me a tab at his house once and I took it, knowing it would do nothing to me, and just pretended to be high instead

Never been much of a drug person but I had a somewhat horrifying experience at a Butthole Surfers show where I drank a 40 oz bottle of beer and a bottle of cough syrup (because I had a very bad cold), and spent most of the show shaking, sweating, delirious, and convinced I was going to die. Gibby Haynes launching so many fireballs at the club ceiling that the temperature went up about perceptibly every time he did it did not help my mood or overall experience.

Instead of create and send out, it pull back and consume (unperson), Thursday, 15 August 2024 19:57 (one year ago)

Seems like an ideal way to experience it!

Will doing drugs at shows stop my feet from hurting? /old

peace, man, Thursday, 15 August 2024 20:18 (one year ago)

Never done anything but weed and booze at shows. I went through a period where I liked to drink a lot at really loud shows, like Acid Mothers Temple, which was sort of delirious fun but I burned myself out on. These days it's basically a drink or two. One thing I miss about going to Bonnaroo is being in a big outdoor crowd where everyone was just freely toking. Most of the shows I go to are indoors and you cannot get away with that in our smoke-free era.
