So it appears the Who are coming to the Northwest. And I'm more than a little bit leery - but, man, would I love to see the Who if they were going to be good.

So: anybody seen the Who recently? Geriatric moneygrubbers or amazingly keeping the flame alive?

Why? You can buy a whole lot of CDRs for their tickets prices. :-)

Isn't Keith Moon dead?

Impressions from the live "internet only!" album they were flogging after their last tour: Pete is still a phenomenal guitar player, & may even have gotten better with time--but the rest of the band is all playing the songs in synch but not _together_, as they do gloriously on the good Who live recordings.

Various things Pete's been quoted as muttering add up to 1) he's been writing a lot for the last few years, 2) what he's been writing is very far outside the Who's usual methodology, and 3) he'd rather be doing something new than flogging the old hits one more time. But I bet they flog the old hits one more time anyway.

I have been led to believe that in the Albert Hall gig last Friday Pete Townshend fell off the stage. Which is funny, but not quite as funny as the idea that he might have employed his helicopter style arm movements to proppel himself back up on to the stage.

I bet they're better to see now then they would have been 10 years ago. My guess is that they're more relaxed and just having fun now. .. but it's clean fun, which is fuckin' boring.

But if you've never seen them, go see them before they're dead. It is 3/4ths of THE WHO, fer chrisakes.

3/5 of the original Stones are on tour, and I can't say I've felt a burning desire to see them.

I think Ned's minimum percentile for viewing old rock bands is set at 85%. Me, I'm a 75%er, I guess (given my trip to see Mission of Burma). HOWEVER, since Keith Moon was like having TWO drummers in the band (cf. Pavement, except Moon danced WHILE drumming!), the actual reunion percentile in this case is the same as the Stones - 60%. Therefore, walk on by, Herr Townsend - I'm going mobile! (Ugh.)

Well, at $60 + service charge for the cheap seats, I'm getting more disinclined.

*considers reunion experiences* Well, the Chameleons were 100%, so that helped.

Oh yeah, and Bauhaus = 100%
