If it all seems like a fever dream, it probably was. But I had fun writing it. :-)

But I really hate Dylan, the more so with the years, which is something that the Strokes will never get from me.
I am not still sure what to think about Dylan, did not yet penetrate deep enough into his music but on The Strokes I have to agree Ned. There is no point in hating them but I would add there is also no point in wasting your time and writing on them. There are so many great bands around which would deserve our attention much more. Take the Shins for example. They could do with a little hype or what do you think?

Considering the number of times Mr. Raggett refers to the Strokes as a "boy band", it would have been helpful if he had provided a defintion of what one is. If the the Bay City Rollers, the Black Crowes, and Guns'n'Roses all fall under the category of boy band, then I'm quite sure I need the term explained to me.

Trust me, Sean, I knew what I was doing. :-)

Yes, The Shins deserve more press, when compared to the saturation The Strokes are experiencing. Methinks The Strokes are nowhere near as interesting as Spoon, who had the whole seventies swagger thing in full effect long before The Strokes had training wheels. Blame Rough Trade for being overly cool and for getting this ball rolling in the first place. Don't blame Ned for writing about them, whether he praised them, trashed them, or simply labeled them mediocre. Ned's reviews at Allmusic are a bible of superb musical taste.

Gosh, thanks -- if you say so! I figure a lot of that I'd rework a bit, but then again what writer doesn't think that about their own work?

I think what might be being missed in this thread is that 1) this was, after all, a Strokes special, and while I had no immediate thought to add to it, the idea that I came up with proved so fun I just had to write it and 2) keeping in mind my shift to a 'business' tone as the article as it goes, I thought it was clear that there is satire at work here! But much less satire than might be thought. ;-)
