I would have to say Sabbath.

Christian, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Blue Oyster Cult, I can remember crusing for babes in the T-Bird with the t-top and wearing my BOC t-shirt. Listening to Fear the Reaper going 90, the feathered haircut blowing in the breeze and a case of budweiser in my stomach.

Foghat - Did some major fuckin to "I just wanna make love to you"

poops mcgee, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No, Sabbath is too heavy. I would say something like Foreigner or 38 Special.

Nicole, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Loverboy.

Michael Daddino, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Journey would like to think they are, but too much gloss ruins the mood.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

gotta be judas priest ...

has anyone seen 'heavy metal parking lot'? absolutely hilarious.

fields of salmon, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

When you make up your mind who it is, let me know so I know who to shoot with that anti-tank weapon I'm saving up for a special occasion.

Lord Custos, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Why use that when there is Tarkus?

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It depends on the color of the Camaro and the nature of the mullet. Black camaro, loose wispy mullet: Van Halen's 1st album. Blue Camaro, carefully moussed mullet poss. w/blond streaks: REO Speedwagon. Pre-mullet mullet, not Camaro but Mustang or Sting-Ray: now you're in Sabbath territory. Or BTO. Or the James Gang.

First guy to make a glitch CD utilizing only samples of the above-cited bands gets mad props & my fifteen bucks. CD's gotta have a custom-painted Stingray on the front though.

John Darnielle, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I maybe able to help you John.

chris, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

There wasn't a glitch one, but Jeremy Boyle's disc was weirdly soothing in its own way.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I may throwdown some Boston in this mix of mullets, but i'll make sure I'm Takin Care of Business.

Chris, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

AC/DC, fucking hands down. The holy duo of 'Highway to Hell' and 'Back in Black' are pretty much untoppable.

Clarke B., Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll see your AC/DC and raise you any Thin Lizzy album from 1973 to 1976 on any pre-'79 model dudemobile, and raise you Sweet's "Fox On the Run."

John Darnielle, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ted Nugent

Alex in NYC, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Travis Tritt.

Andy, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Thin Lizzy - when we used to come home from college in the summer and try to score chicks, "the boys are back in town" said it all.

Come on, LED ZEPPELIN!

Manny Parsons, Friday, 12 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's not exactly what John's looking for but I suspect one reason I didn't get into Universite de Montreal's Master's program in electroacoustic composition may be that I told them I want to do for my project an electroacoustic piece based entirely on samples of AOR power ballads. The closest I've come so far is a microtonal prepared guitar piece based on "Dust In the Wind".

sundar subramanian, Friday, 12 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

sundar- what abt heavy metal riffs. Have you ever thought abt it? How far could you push that sound...

Julio Desouza, Friday, 12 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

So, did anyone ever accept Mr. Darnielle's challenge?

I'm going to start now.

Keiko, Friday, 12 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

AC/DC and Bad Company.

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Saturday, 13 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nobody beats Skynyrd.

Dave225, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This is pretty much an American question isn't it....wonder what the closest UK equivalent would be.

Probably something involving a Ford Cortina with fluffy dice in the late 70's...and some American music.

Ray Manston, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tim Hecker's My Love is Rotten to the Core supposedly uses Van Halen samples exclusively, so John may get his wish.

Mark, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nazareth, Dio, Pablo Cruise.

bryan, Thursday, 18 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)
