15 yards for extreme lameness

Haikunym (Haikunym), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 20:14 (twenty years ago)

i dont get them. i thought they were supposed to be hip hop but their turning into no doubt, but a lot more annoying. no doubt became less name, and (dont tell anybody) that gewn stephanie album is good.

new_slang_chick (new_slang_chick), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 20:27 (twenty years ago)

no need to be embarrassed, shins_have_changed_your_life, lots of us like the gwen stefani album.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 20:28 (twenty years ago)

Fergie is hotter, though, in a grizzly stripper kinda way

Sawed Off (Roger Fidelity), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 20:28 (twenty years ago)

a grizzly stripper who wets herself

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 20:29 (twenty years ago)

THE BEST KIND OF GRIZZLY STRIPPER DUH

(btw blount I felt that way about "get retarded" on teh last album)

(also your fantasy football team will be about as good as apl.de.ap's rapl.de.rappping)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 20:30 (twenty years ago)

They weren't any good when they were trying to be De la Soul either.

Confounded (Confounded), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 20:30 (twenty years ago)

Sample rhyme:

"I see you try to dis our function by stating that we can't rap - Is it cuz we don't wear Tommy Hilfiger or baseball caps? - We don't use dollars to represent - We just use our innocence and talent."

Confounded (Confounded), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 20:31 (twenty years ago)

lol the shins didnt change my life but i obviously like em lots. and im glad im not alone here about liking gwen songs. its just more fun than the earlier skaish stuff from before. i couldnt stand no doubt when i was a kid.

new_slang_chick (new_slang_chick), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 20:31 (twenty years ago)

The only BEP track I don't hate with a passion is "Let's Get Retarded" (not "Let's Get It Started," mind you). The rest, even when catchy and fun, invariably have at least one line of such monumental stupidity that I can't go on listening. (In "Don't Phunk With My Heart," there's the "You make me feel / so real / I love you more than sex appeal" bit that just saps me of any desire to live).

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 20:35 (twenty years ago)

haha way to take a stand on the "let's get retarded" renaming issue!

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 20:36 (twenty years ago)

i'd say more about "my hump-a-lump-a-ding-dong" but i'm saving the zingers for stylus.

i think "don't phunk with my heart" is the best thing they've done.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 20:36 (twenty years ago)

Baby girl, you got me got me! With your pistol, shot me shot me! (gunshot f/x)

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 20:41 (twenty years ago)

hahaha jb, non-indie guilt rears its head

Banana Nutrament (ghostface), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 20:46 (twenty years ago)

my. indie backlash. indie guilt. are the kids on this website exiled from some indie deprogramming cult?

new_slang_chick (new_slang_chick), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 20:58 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I was in a friends car the other day and there was this music playing that was compelling enough to ask about and he was all - black eyed peas - and then the rapping starts and it's really bad rapping. The beats are cool though, they sound like some mashups from a couple years ago.

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 21:28 (twenty years ago)

I think this is probably a "omgwtf there's no way I can like this shit" choice for everyone. Is there anyone above the age of 16 who thinks that actively liking BEP is a great idea?

mike h. (mike h.), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 22:06 (twenty years ago)

"Where's The Love" may be one of my 10 least favorite songs of all time.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 22:07 (twenty years ago)

it's kind of weird how they released 2 singles in a row that both go "no no no no, don't _____" in the chorus.

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 22:11 (twenty years ago)

are the kids on this website exiled from some indie deprogramming cult?

not nearly enough

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 22:38 (twenty years ago)

if lovin' indie is wrong, i don't wanna be right

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 22:40 (twenty years ago)

That Gwen Stefani album is recycled garbage. Sorry, sorry, each to his own.

That Black Eyed Peas is recycled garbage too. Gwen recycles 80's hits (and fiddler on the roof) and B.E.P's recycles Dick Dale, Jack Johnson, probably others, whatever.

The point is twofold.

1) Each to their own

2) I personally hate both albums

Love,

- e

Erock Lazron, Tuesday, 23 August 2005 23:48 (twenty years ago)

Out of morbid curiousity, I downloaded this. It's the worst fucking thing I've ever heard.

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 00:54 (twenty years ago)

but it recycles jack johnson!!!

j blount (papa la bas), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 05:35 (twenty years ago)

I unashamedly love "Hey Mama".
Other than that, have a nice trip to hell, LOSERS.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 05:41 (twenty years ago)

I still like "Request Line".

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 05:44 (twenty years ago)

me too. actually i think that's the only BEP song i really like and i love it.

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 05:46 (twenty years ago)

I unashamedly love "Hey Mama".

Fergie's "nah nah nah nah nah" bit is like nails on the chalkboard for me.

gistne, Wednesday, 31 August 2005 22:01 (twenty years ago)

I liked BEP before Fergi came along. They sound totally different now, but My Hump is the first song I like with her in it. It reminds me of back in the days when that one song was cool, "SUPER SONIC."

and about Gwen. She's dope. Some of the songs on her new album are lame but mostly all fun. For those of us that don't take music so damn serious.

diana, Friday, 2 September 2005 18:03 (twenty years ago)

I realized this year that Fergie is, in fact, Stacy Ferguson of:

a) third-rate girl group Wild Orchid, from a few years ago (Google 'em, I can't be bothered to find out if they had any hits)

and

b) more importantly, the Martika-launching 80s kiddie show Kids, Inc, during which she (Stacy, that is) was a childhood crush of mine.

For some reason, this makes me dislike BEP even more.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 2 September 2005 18:31 (twenty years ago)

Confounded, that BEP track is excellent. As was the one they did with David from 90210.

pappawheelie II, Friday, 2 September 2005 18:52 (twenty years ago)

I can't be bothered to find out if they had any hits

Cotten does the dirty work, and... WO looks like an utterly failed project. From a site:

Heat it up with WILD ORCHID
Their junior album sadly was shelved by RCA. I only have some of the mp3's from the "Fire" album and I will put it on the website for the some of the fans that haven't heard the songs yet.
Their self-titled debut album attacked the world in 1997, and their sophomore album, Oxygen was released a year afterward, proving they have star power. On the new single, the B-side features a J.C. Chasez (*NSYNC fame) penned tune entitled Lies. He also cowrote the tracks of "Just Another Girl", "U Knew", and "Fire".

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Friday, 2 September 2005 21:13 (twenty years ago)

So, JC Chasez really isdoomed to play second fiddle to Timberlake for the rest of his career....

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 2 September 2005 21:17 (twenty years ago)

What'sthatbiglongbuttononmykeyboardfor?

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 2 September 2005 21:20 (twenty years ago)

I remember Wild Orchid. "Talk to Me" was vaguely popular in the spring of '97, I think it charted at like #52.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Friday, 2 September 2005 21:38 (twenty years ago)

I like how their records were titled "Fire" and "Oxygen." We have a thread on this, don't we?

one month passes...
Not a huge fan, but the song's actually OK, and I dig her bangs in the video.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Monday, 24 October 2005 06:47 (twenty years ago)

Though none of this is as funny as the use of "Let's Get Retarded" in "Harold and Kumar."

A bit late in the season, but fuckin' the summer jam y'all. Shame, we could have used a couple. This summer was, like, jam-proof or at least jam-retardant or something.
