I guess you don't need any actual music from Afghanistan? (I have a couple catchy things at home.)

It may not have enough ironic distance, but you should look for a good recording of Kanonensong from Dreigroschen Opera (sometimes translated into English as "Army Song"). It doesn't actually mention Afghanistan, though -- the chorus talks about Cooch Behar, which is a few thousand miles away in Bengal.

Er, anything by the Afghan Whigs?

When I get home I will try to get around to uploading a couple recent Afghan things using folk rhythms, but with poppier sort of production (that I actually like, for the most part).

"Paid Vacation" by the Cirlce Jerks (released in 1980)

Hope you're having fun
where's your uniform? where's your gun?
better put on that suntan lotion
'cause you'll be fighting in the hot sun!
it's not..vietnam
just another oil company scam
ya better salute that flag of uncle sam
get your money out place your bets
it's afghanistan!!
fix baionets,check grenades
got enough bullets
got enough rounds to wipe out this place!
Were the infantry & cavalry
parachutes fill the skie, bodies burn and people die

"Passage to Bangkok" by Rush fleetingly mentions "the fragrance of Afghanistan".
