I would recommend the few recordings Derik Horming made in the early 50's and which he issued himself. Leave it to say, the two LPs, The Mechanics Of The Toaster and 10 Sonnets To An Atom, never made it into very few hands, Mr. Horming falling into and dying in obscurity (1966). Self educated primarily, Mr. Horming took an interest in both 12 tone compostion and Native American rhythms, combining the two for his first album, which was recently reissued by Nim Sound in the Czech Republic. Worth digging up and then some! Moreover, I've always wondered if some Momus' approach was slightly influenced by 10 Sonnets To An Atom, which consists of 10 tone poems with Mr. Horming reciting short pieces about his issues concerning him at the time.

Isn't Mexico in North America? Wasn't it during the 50's too?

Oh yeah, this question was asked because I inquired about the Bang on a Can summer music camp at the Massachusetts Museum of Modern art. The reply said they are looking for applicants interested in "contemporary music, primarily in the American experimental tradition" Just thought I would make sure I knew what this was.

They might mean the Cageian chance-music-related school of "experimental" as in "don't know what the outcome will be" rather than just all American avant-garde.
