I'm going with TDotB because that's what mood I'm in.

"Change" by a mile

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Friday, 2 September 2005 03:48 (twenty years ago)

"dock of the bay" is great but it's way overplayed. "a change is gonna come" comes very close to being the greatest single ever made.

"Change" is very possibly the most overrated song of the 60s. "Dock of the Bay," certainly.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Friday, 2 September 2005 05:51 (twenty years ago)

Ever since that MALCOLM X movie, "A Change Is Gonna Come" comes very close to being as overplayed as "Dock Of The Bay."

Change Is Gonna Come. But the Otis version.

Jack Battery-Pack (Jack Battery-Pack), Friday, 2 September 2005 07:10 (twenty years ago)

otis redding = one of the most overrated singers ever.

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Friday, 2 September 2005 07:20 (twenty years ago)

That statement = biggest lie ever.

*xpost*

Otis was the man. and Change by a hair, if only b/c of those silly seascape sound effects at the beginning of Dock.

dock of the bay is just absolutely perfect

BUT

the Baby Huey version of change is gonna come' might just be better

I am in the DOTB is overrated camp. I'm often afraid that "Change" is overrated, that it means well but may not really be that good, but I always like it, it always delivers, whoever's singing it, be it Aretha or Richard Manuel or Aaron Neville. Beautiful song.

every song should have silly seascape effects in it at some point

oops (Oops), Friday, 2 September 2005 15:21 (twenty years ago)

"a change is gonna come" comes very close to being the greatest single ever made

OTM. when someone asks "what is my favoritest song ever" I've had no problem proffering this song for a few years now, and there's no close second.

"Change" for sure. I love Otis even more, but "Dock" is not one of his strongest songs.

BTW, Cooke fans should pick up Peter Guralnick's new book, "Dream Boogie: The Triumph of Sam Cooke," when it comes out next month. I'm hearing great things.
