i didnt know, but i never know these things. i learned every single one from ilm like how 'pull up to the bumper' is abt anal sex. i think its because i learned to love music thru classical music and it took me ages to learn how to listen to lyrics

I know the song borrows the riff from Baba O'Reilly (Teenage Waistland/band etc) pretty heavily and even features the trademark Who stuttering (cruelly inspired by the dude's brother who had a problem).

Rocketman's about cocaine?

WillS, Sunday, 4 September 2005 12:35 (twenty years ago)

I think Heroine by Suede is about heroin. I could be thick though.

gspm (gspm), Sunday, 4 September 2005 13:20 (twenty years ago)

Yes you are a bit thick, you see it's about a Heroine, in this case a female deity called Jaquanda, anyone who thinks the song is about anything else is either delusional or simply a tabloid minded fool. I don't touch drugs. I prefer brown rice.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The "Sweetest Taboo" is totally about anal.

"Dnacing on the Ceiling" is most definitely about cocaine (duh).

And I had a music teacher who knew Bernie Taupin and said that "Rocket Man" was about Elton being gay. He made a convincing argument when he read the lyrics one by one, and by removing the comma between "I miss the Earth so much" and "I miss my wife."

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Sunday, 4 September 2005 14:23 (twenty years ago)

why does removing the comma make the point? his aim is off?

raffi's 'baby beluga' is about eating caviar out of a hookers asshole

I don't want to know what "Down by the Bay" really means.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Sunday, 4 September 2005 15:54 (twenty years ago)

'You Left Me Sore' by Todd Rundgren is about getting VD. But if that wasn't obvious from the title it would be the first time you listened to the song.

Frank Zappa's 'Why Does It Hurt When I Pee?' doesn't leave much room for interpretation either!

Bernie Taupin has frequently been quoted as saying "Rocket Man" is about exactly what it appears to be about, and that he was inspired to write it after hearing Tom Rapp from Pearls Before Swine's own "Rocket Man," which is also about a lonely guy in space, more or less.

"Golden Brown" by the Stranglers is about smack.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 4 September 2005 16:20 (twenty years ago)

"I miss the earth so much (and) I miss my wife"

VS.

"I miss the Earth so much, I (even) miss my (stupid beard of a) wife! (Can you believe it? Me - the Rocket Man! The old space homo! Actually missing that silly, materialistic breeder? THAT'S how lonely it is out in space!)"

Just one interpretation....

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Sunday, 4 September 2005 16:23 (twenty years ago)

The old space homo!

haha

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 4 September 2005 16:25 (twenty years ago)

ok, but i don't think that was the interpretation your teacher presented.

keith m (keithmcl), Sunday, 4 September 2005 16:29 (twenty years ago)

Actually, it was kinda close. The teacher in question was the often brilliant J!m McElw@!ne, who, among other credits, was responsible for the "we do chciken right" jingle and the Muppet Babies theme song! An awesome guy...
