SERIOUSLY, that you own!!

i barely own any 12" singles. i think it is either madonna "angel"/"into the groove" or lisa lisa & the cult jam "can you feel the beat" dub remix

jed_ (jed), Sunday, 4 September 2005 19:35 (twenty years ago)

BUT YOU HAVE TO MR DJ

Ian John50n (orion), Sunday, 4 September 2005 19:37 (twenty years ago)

Maybe UR's "Galaxy 2 Galaxy" then.

jed_ (jed), Sunday, 4 September 2005 19:51 (twenty years ago)

"say hello, wave goodbye" by soft cell.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Sunday, 4 September 2005 20:59 (twenty years ago)

"swap" - lawrence (picked because it's a pretty recent purchase that not only has great cover art (meta-homoeroticism + joy division/peter saville homage), but the song itself is something that i am continuously in awe of)

tricky (disco stu), Sunday, 4 September 2005 21:10 (twenty years ago)

Happy Mondays - Delightful

Kent Burt (lingereffect), Monday, 5 September 2005 02:35 (twenty years ago)

Oh, fuck this question raw. Seriously.

I mean, why not ask people which hour of the day they're only allowed to breathe while you're at it?

donut Get Behind Me Carbon Dioxide (donut), Monday, 5 September 2005 02:39 (twenty years ago)

gosh. probably red turns to 'deep sleep' because that's the one i've been enjoying the most in recent times. although kent makes a good case..

jimmy glass (electricsound), Monday, 5 September 2005 02:40 (twenty years ago)

The Fall - Victoria. I need Guest Informant.

Sasha (sgh), Monday, 5 September 2005 04:22 (twenty years ago)

new order " blue monday".

fane jonda, Monday, 5 September 2005 05:14 (twenty years ago)

fuzzbox " self ".
why would queen allow " bohemian rahpsody" to be covered .
Fuzzbox must've been drunk to sing that bad.
why wasn't the cute pixie-blonde drummer pictured.

Not that you can tell from the picture, but that's the Dhar Braxton "Jump Back" single on Sleeping Bag

Jacob (Jacob), Monday, 5 September 2005 05:49 (twenty years ago)

Second choice (cos it's a dumb question):
http://80music.about.com/library/artist/images/dominatrix.jpg

Jacob (Jacob), Monday, 5 September 2005 05:51 (twenty years ago)

"Killing Moon (All Night Version)" Echo & The Bunnymen. i didn't even know this version existed when i happened across it and this version pisses all over the original, which is still a fantastic song. and it's even longer. hooray!

The other candidate would be "Tremelp EP" which was my introduction to MBV, but does an EP count as a single? who knows.

Lee F# (fsharp), Monday, 5 September 2005 10:49 (twenty years ago)

Either : New Order : Everything's Gone Green/Cries and Whispers/Mesh

Or : Happy Mondays : Freaky Dancin'/The Egg(Mix)/Freaky Dancin'(Live)

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 5 September 2005 10:52 (twenty years ago)

When you've heared "Freaky Dancing (Live)", you never go back to the non-live one.

Anyhow, the 12" single would have to be "Andi in a Karman" by The Senseless Things.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 5 September 2005 10:59 (twenty years ago)

Easily "Propaganda's "The Testament of Dr Mabuse".

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 5 September 2005 11:02 (twenty years ago)

first one i bought:

sensoria 12" - cabaret voltaire

changed my life in many ways that record.

followed closely by the officially unreleased KISSPOWER 12" by Age of Chance

mark e (mark e), Monday, 5 September 2005 11:31 (twenty years ago)

i don't have all that many, well i do but they're all in dad's shed and i can't remember them too well, but maybe

'FLOATATION' by THE GRID (is it the grid? i can't remember. possibly it has a weatherall remix)

"My name is Ted... And one day... I'll be dead, yo yo yo."

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Monday, 5 September 2005 14:03 (twenty years ago)

dee, that's really funny - while it's utterly impossible for me to pick only one, that's certainly in the finals. and i never hear anyone talk about that record, so i'm shocked to see it mentioned here!

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Monday, 5 September 2005 14:53 (twenty years ago)

yo, the good dr bill, that's a fucking mini-album ;)

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 5 September 2005 15:01 (twenty years ago)

Why does it gotta be so damn tough...to pick one. Donut dead-on!

peepee (peepee), Monday, 5 September 2005 15:02 (twenty years ago)

Patti Smith's "Hey Joe" b/w live version of 'Radio Ethiopia".

This narrowly beats out my 12" of Suicide's "Dream Baby Dream"/"Radiation"

sleeve (sleeve), Monday, 5 September 2005 20:36 (twenty years ago)

It used to be the JAMMS' "It's Grim Up North" until my erstwhile home burned down.

"Wishing (If I Had A Photograph Of You)" by Flock of Seagulls

tremendoid (tremendoid), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 16:16 (twenty years ago)

Out of gobs of 12-inchers, I'll pick a straw out and say "Tour de France" by Kraftwerk.

brianiac (briania), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 16:20 (twenty years ago)

the only 12 i own is SISQO - THONG SONG, so, that one

geoff (gcannon), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 16:20 (twenty years ago)

"Shake It Right/Bang 'em Right" by Cab Volt offshoot Six Sed Red, because this is, to my knowledge, their only recorded product.

Honorable mention prize to Arthur Baker's wacky razor-blade editing on Cyndi Lauper's "She Bop."

Daniel Peterson (polkaholic), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 16:25 (twenty years ago)

I didn't think Baker really did that...probably farmed it off to the Latin Rascals or someone.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 16:30 (twenty years ago)

hmmm

the first one that springs to mind is

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 17:36 (twenty years ago)

goddammit.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 17:36 (twenty years ago)

I'll go with "Bring Me Closer" by Altered Images.

Not because it's the "best" or even "my favourite" of the 12"s I own, but it is too often overlooked and a good example of an extended version improving on the basic song. Also, when i first bought it, the record wouldn't play properly on my cheap turntable (needle kept jumping and skipping grooves) so it was a loooong time before I got to hear it in all it's glory.

Jeff W (zebedee), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 17:45 (twenty years ago)

The Feelies doing "Dancing Barefoot."

(Although really probably "Genius of Love" too.)

as soon as i saw this thread revival one 12" came into my head.
and yeah, its the same one i said 17 years ago.
not sure if thats a good or a bad thing.

mark e, Saturday, 29 April 2023 19:59 (two years ago)

I collect LPs and have some 7”s and 10”S but very few 12” singles. Probably a Principe 12” would be my favourite (and most valuable)

Oh actually whatever it’s Joe’s “Claptrap”, I love that single

flamboyant goon tie included, Sunday, 30 April 2023 03:20 (two years ago)

I guess Dinosaur L's "Kiss Me Again"?
