Roc and Presta! "Do What You Feel" - uplifting vocal mix - non-filter filter-house, new york style - I gopt my copies at Downtown Records on 28th st. (?), but I can't figure out if the record store exists any more, and I was wondering if there's any other stuff that's as great as theirs.

Poassibly related, Nervous Records, i.e. Nervous Dog, etc. although they're more "organic," trad house. I've got Byron Stingily and a couple of beats records with MAW beats, Junior Vasquez, Plasmic Honey, DJ Spen... I know it's a whole world, so that's why I'm asking the question.

I guess this makes two questions, though. Really I'm just all about Roc and Presta!! WAAKO - anything else quite like it? Raw pistoning fuzz basslines, it all sounds produced sui generis, rather than any recognizable samples, not that they would be a bad thing (cf. Nervous Records...)

not really answering yr question but i used to love this kind of new york house sound. peter 'at work' presta has been making records since the nu groove days and still makes records that have that same raw and rough nyc sound. you might also like brutal bill and anthony acid. thee (forgotten) label that pretty much put this sound on the map was the wonderful city limits records. ah! just thinking about them is making me go and dig some out.

the long vanished how and little were thee original masters of this sound. particularly check their 'industrial bass' by project 86 on nu groove.

Awesome, stirry! Yes, I love Brutal Bill and Anthony Acid, I have them on a City Limits "Best of New York Techno" comp, strangely done up like an old jazz record, with an abstract oil painting on the front and serious arty font on the back. "Lost in an E" and "Don't Disturb This Groove" (not the one that comes to mind) are particularly great, and more towards the techno end of this sound than the unfeasibly large house build-up end of things.

I'm not sure what my question is, I guess just more of this ruff NYC house sound. What DJs played Roc and Presta in their sets? etc.

I will definitely encode a couple of these tunes and post them here, it will take me a couple of days, though.

You can still be excited! I love this stuff so much. It sounds like a huge rave even though the tracks I mention came out in 1998.

It does sound like good stuff. I shall seek it out.
