I'm interested in how Space were ahead of their time, I was just thinking about them and that "My Neighbourhood" or whatever song today.

I had completely forgotten about them. In fact all I can remember is "my neighbourhood". how were/are they ahead of their time?

Context is everything.

"Space were ahead of their time....in that they surfaced, had a few hits, collaborated about a bit, realised it was heading nowhere/got dropped by their label. Instead of flogging a dead horse, unlike many other mediocre bordering-on-novelty acts."

Being middlingly successful is groundbreaking? I fear some other bands acheived similar feats of mediocrity.

True enough. I meant it's the not-floggin-a-dead-horse bit that's groundbreaking.

Bands that beaver away at something nobody interested is heartening in some cases. But mostly not. Not sure what I'd say for Spaced. Maybe they're off somewhere making mindblowing electronica that, unlike the work of mediocre bordering-on-novelty acts, can't sell.
