so, that juliet album i got in the mail sounds like an album that american labels SHOULD have put out when electronica was supposed to be the future of whatever. don't you think? it even sounds like

she IS a total videogenic elektrobabe (is dj rap still around?), and that can never ever hurt of course. total curve by way of garbage time-warp or something. the album came with 50 PAGES(!!!!) of juliet-related literature. i still need to hear the rmx of avalon that is supposed to be so fab. even the album version is pretty fab. but you can definitely see where fab could be added. who will this record sound exciting to?

I've been unsuccessfully trying to develop an opinion on this in order to write about it for about three weeks. Her voice sounds a bit sort of yawn-like and unengaging a lot of the time. Has its moments though, I like "On The Dancefloor".

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 5 September 2005 14:01 (twenty years ago)

is the whole thing lucont produced?

jermaine (jnoble), Monday, 5 September 2005 14:02 (twenty years ago)

I'd google if I had more to go on than "Juliet"!

I saw a pic of her in Mojo. Stick thin. Boring looking.

The albm got a rub review. Dunno.

All but two tracks (which were done with Jacknife Lee and Guy Sigsworth).

Exactly.

whatever! she's cute and certainly doesn't look like your average joe laptop. she looks like a model. and really, that was how american labels coulda sold electronica. sex is about all they know about.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 5 September 2005 14:20 (twenty years ago)

Who mentioned sex? She looks 12.

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Monday, 5 September 2005 14:21 (twenty years ago)

It IS very very DJ Rap, for sure. Avalon is still wonderful, everything else is falling a bit flat for me, but I know people who love it very much. Garbage/Republica/Transister grrrrRRRRRRRRRowl!, they used to call this sort of thing 'electronica', back when Saaaaaff Republica was a 'name'.

She is V cute and did an okay job at a recent PA I saw - battling with skipping CDs, consolating by jumping into the crowd and getting people to sing with her. Hott voice, she should sass it more though.

Probably about 3 or 4 really good tracks on the album.

Still a bit too reminiscent of Sunscreem at times though (I liked Sunscreem at their time).

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 5 September 2005 14:23 (twenty years ago)

She does remind a bit of Angeline Jolie in Hackers though, it's true.

'Avalon' plus JLC remix are great, so are a couple of others (but not 'Ride The Pain'). It just bemuses me why, when she could be a proper amazing electrohouse crossover star, she's chosen to be Shirley Manson instead, and why JLC let her.

JLC's producing the forthcoming Madonna album: I'm trying to decide whether this is a harbinger of doom or evidence that he kept his best stuff for Madge.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 5 September 2005 14:25 (twenty years ago)

One of the tracks (On The Dancefloor maybe? can't remember now) has the same bassline as Ruff Driverz 'Don't Stop' (relatively obscure handbag house track from 6 or so years ago that i doubt anyone would know).

It's a shame Manson didn't go electropop more often imo!

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 5 September 2005 14:26 (twenty years ago)

What did mojo say? "shame they'd rather have a less good shirley manson, rather than an in-form britney"...

Was those the options?

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 5 September 2005 14:30 (twenty years ago)

what about an infirm Britney?

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 5 September 2005 14:33 (twenty years ago)
