Definitely all of 'Uptown Saturday Night' is that good! That is must- have, it's all got that weird 'Luchini' feel - more recently the 'Trouble Man' single was alright but they seem to have a lost a bit of character. Dunno if there's been other releases.

I like the album more in theory than I actually enjoy listening to it multiple times all the way through. Luchini is one of my top Hip-Hop songs of the 90's hands down. Cooley High is also exceptionally good. The rest of the album is unquestionably good, but it lulls in some spots. Better than the 1st Black Eyed Peas...but no where near the 2nd Pharcyde.

I don't have the albums, but the Luchini 12" is worth having for the b-side: Swing feat. butterfly of digable planets. Also, Swing was mixed by Babu on the beat junkies vol.1 mix album. which also has lots of good tracks and some good scratching, albeit a couple of years old.

I heard Luchini for the first time in a long time at a party last night. Great forgotten song!

I see there's this two volume "Best Of" thing out now and it's on emusic - worth grabbing? Maybe just vol. 1?

I also saw that they came out with an album in 2007 to little fanfare. Any good?

The new album is alright, kind of unexceptional.

I actually saw these guys live once when they were the guest on BET's Teen Summit and I was in the audience. I still remember the hook of the song they did, something like "Sit back relax and let the sugar lo flow."

Yeah that's "Coolie High" from the first joint.

crossposting this from autogoon because why not:

My hunch that the new Camp Lo album is dope was correct. They're rapping a lot better than they were on their last. Not on that other level they were on for their debut, but I'm not going to hold them to that standard. The beats strike just the right balance of variety and coherence. Some bangers, some smooth shit, some really inspired samples. I'm happy with this.

File Uptown Saturday Night among the "albums my lame ass has had the benefit of discovering thanks to the awesome taste of fellow ILXORs" - how could I have complacently ignored the existence of this masterwork for so long (esp. given my enduring love for Ski)?
