Help ASAP! Music in Seattle

Hi, I need help. I am working on a project that requires me to explore the music scene past and present in the Seattle area. I’m not from the area, and while I can see there is a vibrant local music scene, the only genre that seems to come up when I search “Seattle and Music” is of course Grunge. Anyone have any other ideas?

Go to the EMP. They have a whole section on Seattle music, past and present.

Wall of Sound and Singles Going Steady are great record stores and wealths of Seattle music knowledge. Check them out.

GET A RECORD BY THE SONICS ASAP

Yeah, looking up the history of The Sonics would be a really good place to start.

Also just recently saw the movie "Ray" about Ray Charles and Seattle was the first place he started playing shows. He also met Quincy Jones there. I think this was 1949.

Later, in the 70's, future Screamers frontman Tomata Du Plenty performed with a crazy bunch of theatrical drag queens called Ze Whiz Kids.

Also see the movie "Hype" ASAP. It's about the "grunge" scene but actually features real people and bands.

Other artists of note from the Pacific Northwest scene include Paul Revere & the Raiders, Bobby Taylor & the Vancouvers, and Merilee Rush & the Turnabouts.

Young Fresh Fellows and Green Pajamas were Bumbershoot faves of mine as a young kid.
