albums you seem to keep buying again so you either have doubles or albums that you have on multiple formats

feel a bit weird for having a copy of abbey road on vinyl and CD? i cant be the only person who owns certain records on both formats. i know its a waste, but i dont always have time to play the LP at home, but i like to have it it on LP, but with Cd i can play it wherever. please tell me there are other people who do this too, and waste money as pointlessly as me.

I've only been buying vinyl for about a year now, so the only albums I have on multiple formats are Black Strobe's Chemical Sweet Girl EP (the 12" for "Abwehr Disco," the CD for the addition of most of their old tracks and digital versions for my mp3 player) and New Order's Movement (already had the CD, but the LP was cheap, and "Dreams Never End" is a fucking work of genius and one can never own it on too many formats).

The New York Dolls - Too Much Too Soon(Vinyl copy potato-chipped by southern exposure freshman year sun)

The Byrds - Fifth Dimension, Younger Than Yesterday (CD easier to play these days, was at "nice price," contained bonus track)

The Clash - London Calling ( see reasons 1 and 2 above)

I once made a rule for the hell of it:

anytime I see a copy of the Human League's Dare for $2 or less, I buy it.

I have all the Animal Collective, Black Dice, and Deerhoof on vinyl and CD (if available). I'm obsessed with all three.

Spacemen 3, The Fall, The Stooges, lots of dance/techno

Some roots manuva, kanye west, the one self album. Probably a few others.
It mostly happens with hiphop for me because I generally buy it on cd first up but occasionally will like an album enough to want to have it on vinyl so I can play bits when I'm djing.

four years pass...

With reference to my post in the Galaxie 500 thread.

I have a terrible habit of buying things I already have on CD on vinyl (rarely vice versa). Does anyone else share my problem?

Problem is that I never can bring myself to sell the CD once I've bought something again on vinyl. Totally stupid I know but its a mentality I can't seem to shift. Even though I have an album on CD, say 'Disco Inferno Go Pop' for example, I'll often strive and hunt for it on vinyl as well as if driven by some internal desire I'm hopeless to influence.

Sometimes it just gets ridiculous though. Like recently, upon purchasing the deluxe edition of 'Unknown Pleasures' (I know, I'm an idiot, its practically worthless!), I discovered that I had 5 copies of that album; regular CD, deluxe CD, regular vinyl, vinyl reissue and the version on the 'Heart and Soul' box set. Similar situation with 'The Velvet Underground and Nico'; regular CD, vinyl, mono vinyl and the version on the 'Peel Slowly and See' box set. Its not even my favourite Velvets LP!!!

(I ended up giving my regular CD version of 'Unknown Pleasures' to my old man though and he dug it so at least it came to some use!)

Oh, don't get me started on the VU&N banana lp!

1) UK 1st issue that had no banana
2) UK 2nd issue *with* banana, resonably intact
3) LP version in HMV box
4) Australian CD box set
5) French CD box set
6) individual Cd
7) USA box set
8) Deluxe issue 2CD

Am I missing any? Probably. I used to have a picdisc edition...

I will buy the 81-82 EP every time I see it on either vinyl or CD. It's a perfect package.
