Aside from some 'overnights', Johnny Cash has never actually served a jail sentence. He mentions this in his autobiography along with some humorous anecdotes about how reporters never believe him when he tells them this.

Hey, H.R. from Bad Brains even recorded a vocal over the phone from jail! (Can't recall the song; it's from I Against I.)

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Thursday, 8 September 2005 15:22 (twenty years ago)

Whoever sings "HEllo Dad, I'm In Jail!"

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 8 September 2005 15:24 (twenty years ago)

Steve Earle.

PB, Thursday, 8 September 2005 15:26 (twenty years ago)

That was Steve Earle? Which album?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 8 September 2005 15:27 (twenty years ago)

Hey, H.R. from Bad Brains even recorded a vocal over the phone from jail! (Can't recall the song; it's from I Against I.)

I think it's "Sacred Love" - correct me if i'm wrong, anyone who knows otherwise.

Zack Richardson (teenagequiet), Thursday, 8 September 2005 15:32 (twenty years ago)

It is "Sacred Love." The telephone vocal makes the song.

Re Arthur Lee/Love: Didn't two of the other guys serve time for holding up a bunch of donut stores? One of them (Johnny Echols) has just replaced Arthur as frontguy in the current version of Love. If there's any band that's had a screwier and more impropable story than Love I'm not sure I wanna know.

I believe, but cannot confirm, that "smuggler's blues" was composed by Glen Frey when he was doing hard time in South Florida.

Count Grishnakh's spending a lot of time in jail, and he's super white.
