CDR-80: The Anti-Bush Treatise

I'm interested in suggestions for a compilation which explores-exposes-indicts the era and policies of President G.W. Bush and the accompanying "Neo Conservative" political agenda.

This should include all possible genres, and not necessarily *just* American artists...

I am aware that there have been plenty of 'anti-Bush' songs; I'm interested in which people feel hit the target most effectively...

First up:

Eminem - Mosh (too late as it did come, this stands as a very appropriate response to the times and the man)

Perhaps something off Suicide's "American Supreme", to convey the experience of 9/11...

Does anyone recall if there were many musicians lining up to pen songs attacking "The Commander In Chief" between his election and 9/11?

You might want to comb www.protest-records.com, though the only track I really liked was Jim O'Rourke's cover of Bill Fay's Pictures of Adolph Again

"The Problem" by J.J. Cale

Billy Pilgrim (Billy Pilgrim), Thursday, 8 September 2005 19:37 (twenty years ago)

though it personally rankles me to no end, bright eyes' "when the president talks to god" might be the most prominent lately.

steve earle's "condi condi" if you're feeling saucy.

"masters of war" if saucier.

That's a great song - I'm also a fan of Mudhoney's "Hardon For War."

and we'll pray, all damn day, every day,
that all this shit our president has got us in will go away
while we strive to figure out a way we can survive
these trying times without losing our minds

shysters live from scheme to scheme and my 4th quarter pipe dreams
are seeming more and more worth fighting for
so i'll curate some situations, make my job a big vacation
and i'll say FUCK BUSH AND FUCK THIS WAR

Thanks for that, Mentalist. I haven't checked that blog in a while, nor heard from the K to the O. And man, I love their early singles and eps. But this is maybe even better.

"son of a bush" by public enemy

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Friday, 9 September 2005 23:56 (twenty years ago)

Can the somewhat tepid response here be taken as evidence against the "at least with the Republicans in we'll get LOTS OF GREAT MUSIC!!" meme?

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Monday, 12 September 2005 06:53 (twenty years ago)

I mean, in the '80s we had "The War Song," people!

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Monday, 12 September 2005 06:55 (twenty years ago)

Trans Am's "Uninvited Guest" is a lot of fun - Negativland-style re-edited Bush speeches set over a driving Jan Hammer-style synthy track.
