or, is anyone in this bitch going to see nouvelle vague on saturday/tuesday?

nervous (cochere), Friday, 9 September 2005 02:44 (twenty years ago)

Wait, you mean cdwilliams who used to work at Joe's in JC? I dunno. I was supposed to hang out with that guy some time and it never happened. But there's also a guy in JC who works at Joe's Pub/Public Theater in NYC - forksclovetofu. Mayhe you mean him.

You missed the Jersey City FAP, which was attended by a whopping 3 people.

Hurting (Hurting), Friday, 9 September 2005 02:52 (twenty years ago)

shit. yeah I did mean cdwilliams, but I guess Joe's Pub is not Joe's in Jersey City.
there was a Jersey City FAP? where did that get organized, ILE? i might have been off at school anyway.

well the original point of this thread was... if the nouvelle vague shows were 21+. damn i need an ID so badly

nervous (cochere), Friday, 9 September 2005 02:57 (twenty years ago)

Yeah it gets confusing. I think the Joe's in Jersey City was just known as "Uncle Joe's" but it might have been "Uncle Joe's Pub"

i couldnt find the NJ FAP thread ever again. eh, oh well!

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Friday, 9 September 2005 03:00 (twenty years ago)

We can do one on a Tuesday next time if you're really going to make the trek.

Hurting (Hurting), Friday, 9 September 2005 03:05 (twenty years ago)

I've never heard of Nouvelle Vague. Do they have anything to do with Noodle Vague?

Hurting (Hurting), Friday, 9 September 2005 03:11 (twenty years ago)

No, they sing new wave hits in bossa nova arrangements. Looove, loove will tear us apaaart, baka chaka. Trite but mildly cute. They're on Luaka Bop, which is a bit of a slumming signing for ol' DB.

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Friday, 9 September 2005 03:48 (twenty years ago)

I bought that Nouvelle Vague record based on some people round here singing its praises. Liked a lot the first two times I played it but now I find it almost unlistenable.

k/l (Ken L), Friday, 9 September 2005 11:50 (twenty years ago)

But I think Noodle Vague's name is a play on Nouvelle Vague.

k/l (Ken L), Friday, 9 September 2005 11:51 (twenty years ago)

But that could just be because I am a naïf.

k/l (Ken L), Friday, 9 September 2005 11:53 (twenty years ago)

am i alone in not stomaching cute covers. i know they're serious and all, but...but isn't there something else to do

i could just be hating fun again

bb (bbrz), Friday, 9 September 2005 13:23 (twenty years ago)

It's a thin line between cute and cloying.

k/l (Ken L), Friday, 9 September 2005 13:24 (twenty years ago)

this tuesday is no good. im already taking an amtrak from DC to do my final radio show of the summer. unless we want to do FAP PRINCETON, NJ, im out.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Friday, 9 September 2005 13:29 (twenty years ago)

Maybe some other Tuesday, tho.

Hurting (Hurting), Friday, 9 September 2005 13:36 (twenty years ago)

you mean bruce springsteen? he went on to sell a few million records before dying penniless in a gutter in detroit.

richard wood johnson, Friday, 9 September 2005 15:11 (twenty years ago)

x post 'tis true

bb (bbrz), Friday, 9 September 2005 17:10 (twenty years ago)

I just tried listening to that Nouvelle Vague record again and it's really not very good. Once you get over the novelty of hearing the refashioned versions of the familiar tunes you realize that they only got two or three little variations on the bossa nova beat.

k/l (Ken L), Friday, 9 September 2005 19:13 (twenty years ago)

yeah but I've heard good things about the live show... something about the girls being quirky and fun
something like that
also, i'm going up to school this friday so a FAP is probably out of the question for me. unless anyone wants to meet up at the dfa showcase on thursday

nervous (cochere), Saturday, 10 September 2005 19:23 (twenty years ago)

Wow, a thread about me!

nervous, what do you want to know? Uncle Joe's Bar in JC (not to be confused with Joe's Pub in NYC) is now closed, forever. Building to be knocked down in the near future.

Hurting, we do still need to get together.

cdwill, Sunday, 11 September 2005 01:52 (twenty years ago)

Also, does the 'FAP' refer to a JC meetup for ILMers? I'd go to this.

cdwill, Sunday, 11 September 2005 01:58 (twenty years ago)

I need to get together with forksclovetofu also, so lets make it all of us.

(FAP = Fancy A Pint. I think the ritishes started it, being as they go around "fancying" things)

Hurting (Hurting), Sunday, 11 September 2005 02:31 (twenty years ago)

Sounds good. Any thoughts as to when would be a good day/time? Maybe we could pick somewhere that allows Maria to be included as well.

cdwill, Sunday, 11 September 2005 02:55 (twenty years ago)

Um, actually, this is me. I live in Jersey City and I work at Joe's Pub.
In fact, I work so much there that I don't post here as often as I did.
And I saw Nouvelle Vague tonight. They were great.
The shows are NOT 21 and older; Joe's Pub is all ages. But they ARE sold out, so best of luck.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Sunday, 11 September 2005 05:28 (twenty years ago)

cdw: i was just wondering if the Joe's i had thought of was the one connected with the NV show... apparently not though. wish i had asked sooner though as i'm only home (jersey) until the 16th at which point i head back to the wilderness (nh)
forks: fuck. time to see if these radio promoter lies of 'i can always get you on the list, +1' are lies indeed

nervous (cochere), Monday, 12 September 2005 04:19 (twenty years ago)

Oh hello. Yes, my name is a weak pun, but I was thinking Jean Luc not Vic when I come up with it.
