what vowel sound do you like in your SF punk?

off-hand, ill say chrome right now, but i think id be able to make a more educated decision if i had both of their complete discographies in front of me.

haha pete i was just thinking about this exact comparison yesterday! uh, i guess chrome, when it comes down to it. crime is so great though.

Zack Richardson (teenagequiet), Friday, 9 September 2005 14:27 (twenty years ago)

Damn, this is hard. Chrome in the end, but Crime sure made it all work well.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 9 September 2005 14:41 (twenty years ago)

hey ned, i think you had told me about how great chrome albums besides the HMLM/AS twofer are - do you have those? if so, could we email about a potential cdr/gmail trade?

petesmith (plsmith), Friday, 9 September 2005 14:48 (twenty years ago)

Drop me a line...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 9 September 2005 14:49 (twenty years ago)

chrome

toasted labia, Friday, 9 September 2005 14:52 (twenty years ago)

i expected more opposition here.

petesmith (plsmith), Friday, 9 September 2005 14:56 (twenty years ago)

Crime!

mcd (mcd), Friday, 9 September 2005 14:58 (twenty years ago)

I probably like Crime's really hot moments (tracks on the first couple singles) more, but I'm not sure how many really hot moments they had.

Also: Twinkeyz >> Chrome

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Friday, 9 September 2005 15:00 (twenty years ago)

i saw your thread about twinkeyz yesterday, tim. ill have to explore...

petesmith (plsmith), Friday, 9 September 2005 15:03 (twenty years ago)

Chrome on the basis of quantity alone. (Quite possibly quality too, but they're much closer in that category).

Chrome vs. Crime vs. Cream vs. CREEM vs. Crumb, though? hmmm

xhuxk, Friday, 9 September 2005 15:19 (twenty years ago)

chrome for me, they really embody that SF acid-casualty myth in punk form to me. but, what if crime were to try and ARREST chrome? those outfits were very convincing.

deaf leopard (haitch), Friday, 9 September 2005 15:19 (twenty years ago)

vs. creme (brulee) changes the entire ballgame for me.

petesmith (plsmith), Friday, 9 September 2005 15:20 (twenty years ago)

crime's "entire discography," hahaha.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 9 September 2005 15:33 (twenty years ago)

crime vs. chain gang!

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Friday, 9 September 2005 15:38 (twenty years ago)

can we fit Chromeo in here somewhere, too?

ken taylrr has gone off the internet because of you (ken taylrr), Friday, 9 September 2005 15:46 (twenty years ago)

Crass!

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 9 September 2005 16:04 (twenty years ago)

Cramps from '78 to '83 > every other Cr_____ band.

Ellis, Friday, 9 September 2005 16:21 (twenty years ago)

Chrome probably had more great songs simply because they were around for longer, but Crime win out for me.

Mainly because my wife just made me a Crime t-shirt for my birthday.

I'd put the Cramps above Chrome and Crass below. It's a pretty close thing though!

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Friday, 9 September 2005 18:14 (twenty years ago)

Chrome are an amazing band, inimitible sound, whole clutch of classic albums. Deep, deep weirdness. The Crime recordings I've heard always left me with a feeling that you really had to be there.

And you just can't compare anybody with the Cramps.

Soukesian, Friday, 9 September 2005 18:23 (twenty years ago)

chrome. but i love crime, too.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Friday, 9 September 2005 19:30 (twenty years ago)

I misread this as Chrome vs. Grime, and immediately thought "Is there no end to UKG subgenres? And what could a subgenre called 'Chrome' possibly sound like? Lots of high-end? No basslines? Beats made only of pitch-shifted samples of metal snare drums? the mind boggles." I'll stop now.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 9 September 2005 19:39 (twenty years ago)

"The Crime recordings I've heard always left me with a feeling that you really had to be there."

If you haven't heard the early single sides, they're pretty hot. "Hot Wire My Heart," "Murder by Guitar," "Frustration," and "Baby You're So Repulsive."

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Friday, 9 September 2005 19:44 (twenty years ago)

three years pass...

I can't tell because they are different styles I think CRIME is (really) punk rock and CHROME are synth/noise-punk hahaha,I have rare live shows of both bands, any other you have?

almudeno, Thursday, 6 November 2008 14:31 (seventeen years ago)

Crime really really swing which not a lot of punk does

Niles Caulder, Thursday, 6 November 2008 14:39 (seventeen years ago)

seven months pass...

feel like i've been looking for years for more songs with the lurch and sneer of chrome's "tv as eyes" and crime's "piss on your dog" (maybe notlooking hard enough) ... recommendations anyone?

jaime, Friday, 3 July 2009 19:16 (sixteen years ago)

The Testors? More like Crime than Chrome

Those songs you mentioned are among my faves by either band tho

Colonel Poo, Friday, 3 July 2009 19:37 (sixteen years ago)
