Voodoo Child, Friday, 9 September 2005 22:16 (twenty years ago)

And surprise, it is the same as the first one...

snowballing (snowballing), Friday, 9 September 2005 22:19 (twenty years ago)

Oh, boo hoo. So you don't like Franz. That's original. Some people here care and are going to be interested to hear it. Move along then.

Lachlan Andrews, Friday, 9 September 2005 22:26 (twenty years ago)

This is GREAT!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 9 September 2005 22:34 (twenty years ago)

cant wait to hear this. the single is just fucking brilliance, best single of 2005, i hope this is the hotness and that franz wil change my life forever and they will be as much fun as the video and up the ante and make an improvement on their good, clever, but somewhat 1-dimensional debut.

okok, Friday, 9 September 2005 23:08 (twenty years ago)

this is the quickest download to delete ever.

sounds horrible.

Googley Asearch (Toaster), Friday, 9 September 2005 23:11 (twenty years ago)

That blog is a really shitty stupid idea.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Friday, 9 September 2005 23:47 (twenty years ago)

sounds horrible.

Were you really expecting it to sound like something else??

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 9 September 2005 23:49 (twenty years ago)

If it's anything like the single I'm going to hate it.

Steev (Steev), Saturday, 10 September 2005 00:08 (twenty years ago)

why does this fucking thing not workplayed through media player or winamp? what plauyer sre uguys using?

piscesboy, Saturday, 10 September 2005 00:27 (twenty years ago)

A site dedicated to daily music downloads, usually the newest releases and hard to find material.

Man, when will underground acts like Blur and Kanye West finally get their recognition?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 10 September 2005 00:37 (twenty years ago)

It's a .rar file, which is like a .zip, only Winzip won't play with them. Download the Winrar programme from: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm - if you're on Windows, you'll want to install the top one. It's free, but the programme will bug you to register like Winzip does.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 10 September 2005 01:26 (twenty years ago)

I actually really like the Franz. I just didn't want it to leak. I'm gonna buy it because I don't mind giving those guys money.

Voodoo Child, Saturday, 10 September 2005 01:37 (twenty years ago)

Download the album and give the money to the Red Cross.

M. V. (M.V.), Saturday, 10 September 2005 02:12 (twenty years ago)

Downloaded this yesterday. Pretty damn good album, actually. Really dug their first one too, but this one is better, I think.

It's funny, they see like a band that I would normally hate / shun, but for some reason they've stuck in my head. Damn it, I like them ! How could this have happened ?!

Help me

Erock LAzron, Saturday, 10 September 2005 06:28 (twenty years ago)

YSI zip now please please thankyew!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Saturday, 10 September 2005 07:44 (twenty years ago)

ok, listening to this now, and its a LOT more varied than the first, definitely not as one dimensional, they dont do that straitjacketed square riffing on every single song like they used to. but its not all quite as chock full of good songs, or not on first listen anyway. i think it will grow on me though. theres nothing bad on it. i give them credit for switching up their sound and not making a room on fire. despite all this, i duno if its something about their production or just them as a unit, but theres something thats a bit too cold/colourless about their production. maybe its on purpose, but it sounds so 'boxy' sometimes. in a way i like it cos its not giving the listener warmth which is cool and makes a change from people thinking rock must sound all warm and what have you like the white stripes, it sounds NEW, but its stil a bit boxy.

okok, Saturday, 10 September 2005 08:15 (twenty years ago)

also, where in the fuck are these much blabbered about lil jon/kanye references? i dont hear ANY!

oko, Saturday, 10 September 2005 08:15 (twenty years ago)

Boxy is the new angular

Soukesian, Saturday, 10 September 2005 08:17 (twenty years ago)

but its not all quite as chock full of good songs, or not on first listen anyway. i think it will grow on me though.

to be fair, the first album is hardly Girls Aloud...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Saturday, 10 September 2005 09:32 (twenty years ago)

sounds horrible.

Were you really expecting it to sound like something else??

-- Spencer Chow (spencercho...), September 10th, 2005.

Well i liked their first album and i love the new single. But the rest of this just seems kind of...flat.

Googley Asearch (Toaster), Saturday, 10 September 2005 09:39 (twenty years ago)

To me, this album sounds like what I had feared the first album would sound like.

M. V. (M.V.), Saturday, 10 September 2005 10:23 (twenty years ago)

WHY ESS EYE!

please!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Saturday, 10 September 2005 10:26 (twenty years ago)

all blocked. boo. thanks for trying tho!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Saturday, 10 September 2005 10:54 (twenty years ago)

whoah. what's an .rar file?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Saturday, 10 September 2005 11:50 (twenty years ago)

I heard it only once, but seemed as a pretty good album. Closing track called 'Outsiders' was my favourite, and 'Walk Away'.

zeus, Saturday, 10 September 2005 12:33 (twenty years ago)

this album is incredibly weak. cant believe my ears. pure bulshit.

karl76 (karl76), Saturday, 10 September 2005 21:14 (twenty years ago)

I've had it for weeks but it only really clicked listening tonight. They sure like Blondie's disco phase, which means it'll sell lots and lots.

snotty moore, Saturday, 10 September 2005 23:12 (twenty years ago)

1st listening - 'meh'
2nd listening - 'hmm'
3rd listening - 'good, but I'm not sure it's as strong as the first'

Si.C@rter (SiC@rter), Sunday, 11 September 2005 00:06 (twenty years ago)

Smells like Franz. Tastes like Franz.
I'm not yet sure what they're trying to pull with "Eleanor...". And the title track is hard to chew.
But...record sounds Franz. And that's okay.

mox twelve (Mox twleve), Sunday, 11 September 2005 00:33 (twenty years ago)

*sounds "like" Franz.

mox twelve (Mox twleve), Sunday, 11 September 2005 00:35 (twenty years ago)

Is that REALLY the cover of the album? Fuckin lame.

fizzcaraldo (Justin M), Sunday, 11 September 2005 00:39 (twenty years ago)

actually, yes, xxpost, it does sound kinda flat. but then all their records do. they like those 'flat' sonics. its just so arty!

okoko, Sunday, 11 September 2005 08:56 (twenty years ago)

i think that in an effort to not rehash the debut, they've altered their sound slightly in a way that partly loses what was characteristic and interesting about it, and as a result, it all sounds a bit more bog-standard indie rock. you can't blame them on the one hand, because the whole angular edgy thing is currently being beaten to death by their peers, but that was pretty much all they had in the first place. it's good, and it'll get better with a few more listens, but there's nothing to get excited about, and i kind of hoped there would be.

Lee F# (fsharp), Sunday, 11 September 2005 09:24 (twenty years ago)

they sound a bit lost without the angularity. oh well, 10/10 in the nme surely awaits.

okok, Sunday, 11 September 2005 09:48 (twenty years ago)

I think someone mentioned it before, but the first single is really very Different Class-era Pulp (especially the Jarvis channeling "they're oh so arty, oh yeah").

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Sunday, 11 September 2005 18:16 (twenty years ago)

This is of course a good thing.

I also like the cover very much.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Sunday, 11 September 2005 18:17 (twenty years ago)

Heh, that "Eleaanor put your boots on" is my new fave franz song...

paulhw (paulhw), Sunday, 11 September 2005 21:33 (twenty years ago)

I heard the single for the first time in a club last night and hated it. I need to hear it again though, cos I do like Franz.

Crackity (Crackity Jones), Sunday, 11 September 2005 21:43 (twenty years ago)

I have no axe to grind with these guys - I own the first album and enjoy it, but this follow-up is really dull. On the previous thread about the "Do You Want To" single, someone said that it sounded like the last 35 years of British rock put in a blender set to "boring". That about sums it up.

John Hunter, Monday, 12 September 2005 20:39 (twenty years ago)

Well, I guess I disagree with everyone, because my first reaction to this was really, really positive. To me, the last record was the one that was flat and lacking variation. Maybe my opinion will change as I listen to it more, but right now I'm really into it.

PeopleFunnyBoy (PeopleFunnyBoy), Monday, 12 September 2005 21:46 (twenty years ago)

Oh, I think the general reaction to this album will be extremely positive. There are no real throwaway songs. Hooks abound, etc. I expect it will do very well.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 12 September 2005 21:49 (twenty years ago)

love, love, love it. some of the in-song builds/shifts made me do a fist-pump , even.

heck, i can see at least three of its songs being used as at-bat music even.

maura (maura), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 04:03 (twenty years ago)

at-bat music? why, Maura, whatever would lead you to a statement like that?

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 04:04 (twenty years ago)

Could someone post a link or send it to me? Cheers!

Lorenzo, Tuesday, 13 September 2005 22:10 (twenty years ago)

three years pass...

and so has the new one.

piscesx, Saturday, 10 January 2009 23:54 (seventeen years ago)

snoball, Saturday, 10 January 2009 23:57 (seventeen years ago)

snoball, Saturday, 10 January 2009 23:57 (seventeen years ago)

*audience shifts uncomfortably*

Goodnight, Mr. Johnson. (country matters), Saturday, 10 January 2009 23:59 (seventeen years ago)
