Did anyone see that? I just watched it and it was amazing.

I was watching TV and I passed CBS and there was Bowie with the Arcade Fire singing one of the AF's songs (I forget which one).

It anyone can find it please post it on here.

David's slumming again!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 10 September 2005 01:37 (twenty years ago)

did he look beaten up or something? s'what i heard...

ken taylrr has gone off the internet because of you (ken taylrr), Saturday, 10 September 2005 01:37 (twenty years ago)

Yeh he looked pretty out-of-it. I think his age is catching up to him.

Voodoo Child, Saturday, 10 September 2005 01:39 (twenty years ago)

I saw it, it was great! I thought he looked fine. Earlier in the night he did "Life on Mars" and it was amazing as well.

mrjosh (mrjosh), Saturday, 10 September 2005 02:17 (twenty years ago)

The Arcade Fire he did was "Wake Up"

Voodoo Child, Saturday, 10 September 2005 02:27 (twenty years ago)

anyone got a copy? oh, so demanding...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Saturday, 10 September 2005 07:47 (twenty years ago)

yeah I really hope someone's recorded the audio...

willem (willem), Saturday, 10 September 2005 08:51 (twenty years ago)

Iman smacked his bitch up.

David's slumming again!

Ned, that's not slumming. This is slumming:

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Saturday, 10 September 2005 17:37 (twenty years ago)

yeah, see from pic above... bandaged hand a black eye. my sources were correct!

ken taylrr has gone off the internet because of you (ken taylrr), Saturday, 10 September 2005 18:26 (twenty years ago)

wow, what happened?

willem (willem), Saturday, 10 September 2005 18:46 (twenty years ago)

more from bowie.com:
http://www.davidbowie.com/bin/images/html/db_ankles_300k.gif
yes, ankels...

and a shot made during "Five Years" (I'd love to hear that one)
http://www.davidbowie.com/bin/images/html/db_arcade_fire_300k.gif
black eye gone! it appears as though he found some of his old mime make-up and considered an Arcade Fire gig would be a good a time as any to try it on one more time...

willem (willem), Saturday, 10 September 2005 18:56 (twenty years ago)

I immediately thought of those mis-applied botox injections that can give you what looks like a black eye.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Saturday, 10 September 2005 19:03 (twenty years ago)

I want to reach through the screen there in that last shot and deck Mr. Passionate Accordion Singer.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 10 September 2005 19:18 (twenty years ago)

The black eye is definitely just theatrical makeup - it's his beat-up schoolkid costume.

mrjosh (mrjosh), Saturday, 10 September 2005 19:21 (twenty years ago)

It was a great performance -- Heather Graham looked like she was really enjoying it.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 10 September 2005 19:27 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I seen Heather Graham enjoying it a lot too.

She's Per-itty.

Voodoo Child, Saturday, 10 September 2005 20:10 (twenty years ago)

fyi, i knew a girl who used to have a black eye as a fashion statement. maybe bowie caught wind of this trend.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Saturday, 10 September 2005 20:33 (twenty years ago)

Perhaps he's come full circle and now takes tips from Peter Murphy a decade back:

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 10 September 2005 20:35 (twenty years ago)

It was a great performance -- Heather Graham looked like she was really enjoying it.

Because nothing gauges the quality of a David Bowie show like the reaction of Rollergirl.

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Saturday, 10 September 2005 20:36 (twenty years ago)

that accordion player is awesome though, bad picture aside

kyle (akmonday), Saturday, 10 September 2005 21:28 (twenty years ago)

why do you want to punch him, ned?

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 10 September 2005 22:30 (twenty years ago)

and why is that a bad picture of him? he's... singing and playing his instrument!

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 10 September 2005 22:30 (twenty years ago)

There's something '10th grade talent show' about him...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 10 September 2005 22:37 (twenty years ago)

Just wait to see the blogs fight over who TiVoed a copy first... yawn.

Where are said bloggers hiding?

mandrill, Sunday, 11 September 2005 01:47 (twenty years ago)

Man, I love that performance.

P.S. Mostly everyone from Canada looks like 10th Grade Talent Show-esque. So I think that's a Racist remark.

And also: Even if he looks bad (which I don't think he does), David Bowie still asked his band to play with him on a televised event AND did one of his band's songs. I think that's ACE!

Voodoo Child, Sunday, 11 September 2005 01:58 (twenty years ago)

Also: Is that Brian Adams giving them the Devil Horns at the end?

Voodoo Child, Sunday, 11 September 2005 02:00 (twenty years ago)

the whole fucking band is like an affected artsy high school talent show project or some shit. that buddy holly looking motherfucker is even more irritating when he's standing on a stage right in front of you.

La Monte (La Monte), Sunday, 11 September 2005 02:21 (twenty years ago)

is that a thom browne suit on bowie?

La Monte (La Monte), Sunday, 11 September 2005 02:23 (twenty years ago)

Spot on, La Monte:
David was dressed in a charcoal grey suit by new American designer, Thom Browne, with matching grey tie and white shirt and a stars n stripes lapel pin. (from bowie's site)

willem (willem), Sunday, 11 September 2005 09:27 (twenty years ago)

The black eye is definitely just theatrical makeup

merely a stepping stone on the path to...

Lovelace (Lovelace), Sunday, 11 September 2005 14:27 (twenty years ago)

Oh I saw that. I only watched it because of David Bowie. I heard his name on the radio and waited till Friday. I loved Life On Mars? It's such a great song I wanet to duy the CD Hunky Dory the next day just to have that song. When he sang Wake Up with the Arcade Fire I was amazed. That was such a great performance. I loved David's voice with that song. It's not the same without him. I need to find that live performance on Mp3 or something!!!!!!!

SangoSan, Sunday, 11 September 2005 20:23 (twenty years ago)

momus looks like a balloon smuggler in that pic

ken taylrr has gone off the internet because of you (ken taylrr), Sunday, 11 September 2005 22:00 (twenty years ago)

He sounded great on "Wake Up", but, black eye make-up aside and anyway, abandoned for the AF song, he didn't look well.

I mean, on the Reality tour he looked terrific--fit, in fighting trim.

Didn't he have heart surgery recently? I imagine that would make even Bowie a bit tucked out.

Ian in Brooklyn, Monday, 12 September 2005 04:51 (twenty years ago)

thought he sounded really good but yeah he looked like he was not feeling well :(

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Monday, 12 September 2005 04:55 (twenty years ago)

Life on Mars? 1971 vs. Life on Mars? 2005

Did not see this, but blimey. Top of the Pops.

Luminiferous Aether (kate), Monday, 12 September 2005 07:14 (twenty years ago)

About him not looking too well. I agree. He subsequently looked much more alive, that day he looked a bit tired or something, but the way he looked had nothing to do with his performance. He still sang as sexy as ever. Goodness I hope he still looks tip-top. He's only 58, he has a long time to go TT_TT

SangoSan, Monday, 12 September 2005 22:49 (twenty years ago)

There's something '10th grade talent show' about him...

not talent show, drama club

mookieproof (mookieproof), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 03:07 (twenty years ago)

god, that was amazing. both performances. i've always thought that bowie's developed this opera-singer sound that i don't like, but i thought he just nailed it.

the black eye and bandage were, i think, fake. some sort of statement or reinforcement of the song's content?

wake up was just thrilling. to see the king of yesteryear and the goddamn best contemporary band on the planet performing together stirred my loins. i know they were rumored to play five years, but i turned it off after wake up. i had to go rub one out and scream.

rockaction (rockaction), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 03:12 (twenty years ago)

I saw this, or at least the song that starts with the crazed drummer boy -- I guess it's an Arcade Fire song -- and I have to say: what a plodding load of rubbish.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 20:38 (twenty years ago)

"stirred my loins" lol that was fuuny, but I stayed tuned incase he came on again, don't worry he didn't. OMG yesterday I heard the song WAKE UP on KRouq!!!!!!! I was so happy!!!! I was jumping up and down litterally. God I love that song and I'm downloading it currently as I type!!! (damn slow computer, 58 minutes to go T_T)and David is in that version too!!! I think he was featured in that song, because I know that's his voice in that song. I love his sexy voice and that bands playing. Dump Iman and marry me DAVID!!! TT_TT *high on sugar*

SangoSan, Wednesday, 14 September 2005 00:49 (twenty years ago)
