Songs that you love more than life, that actually mean something to you.

Help please -> they can be as random as you want.

What songs make you smile or your heart skip and beat? What songs do you find yourself humming in your head when you're trying to fall asleep? Or the ones that you believe would be perfect background music for a moment in your life that was epic in your life. What songs have lyrics that make you believe in something or someone or just make you think that if someone said that to you, you'd swoon.

I wanna make an awesome mix CD, so any feedback would really help.

"Prayer to God," Shellac. This is an absolutely serious answer. However, I have a feeling that it may not be the sort of thing you're looking for.

Shellac's vitriolic "Prayer to God," for instance, may not seem like the most likely candidate for The River's stomping, gospel-tinged sing-along treatment, but Jon-Rae is a magic miner: he can extract ancient, folky gold from any kind of seam.

No, I haven't heard it. I'd love a YSI. (And I'm mentally compiling a list of other songs from which I'd like to hear ancient folky gold extracted.)

Speaking of covers, and even approaching on-topic-ness, I've just been amazed by Robyn Hitchcock's live cover of "A Day in the Life" -- for his nerve at attempting, and his techne in actually pulling off, the whole pompous quaint unfashionable thing. The way he sings "now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert HALLLLL" almost makes me not hate the Beatles.
