"The Message," though I don't really get the comparison.

"The message" is obviously better. Shit, no contest. "The breaks" is a classic but it's a tad overrated as far as Kurtis Blow cuts go. "Hard times" is his best early track (and maybe my favorite track by him) and some of his slightly later songs like "8 million stories", "a.j scratch" and "if i ruled the world" piss all over it.

I don't really get the comparison, either.

A better comparison woulda been "the breaks" vs. "it's nasty". In that instance i'll take "it's nasty".

Or their '79 debuts : "xmas rappin'" vs. "superrappin'". I'll take "xmas rappin'" there although the Melle Mel verse on "superrappin'" rules.

Or "the breaks" vs. "freedom". I'll go for "the breaks" there as i hate that replay of the appalling "get up and dance" break on "freedom".

Or "if i ruled the world" vs. "the message". I'll take "the message" again there.

Or, uh, "8 million stories" vs. "message 2(survival)". I'll call that one a draw.

Flash and Melle Mel/Furious Five take the battle overall and i didn't even mention "white lines", "scorpio", the awesome "step off", "new york new york" or "beat street".
