i fucking hate them
that horrrendous voice of jaggers
that lame, almost timid rhythm section
their country sucks (mostly cos of jaggers voice/accent)
most of their songs just sound the same - leaden, never come alive as they sound indebted to being faithful to their influences
i like various singles of theirs but cant find one album thats actually lived up to the hype
most overrated band of the classic rock canon

"that lame, almost timid rhythm section."

Rather like this sentence.

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Monday, 12 September 2005 12:02 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, say what you want about the Stones. But don't diss that rhythm section, ya mutha.

i agree with the first poster.

AaronK (AaronK), Monday, 12 September 2005 15:50 (twenty years ago)

My mother continues to hold up Mick Jagger as the poster-boy for reprehensible, animalistic rock depravity.

"B-b-b-but, Mom, he's been KNIGHTED!"

"Oh, he's disgusting!"

"Mom, have you met GG Allin?"

Massive dud. If you like the Beatles or whatever, well, y'know, go with god, but if you just don't like the Stones please just keep quiet about it. Everyone else is right, and you are wrong, and you're just pooping in their oatmeal.

You don't hear me bitching about the Violent Femmes, do you?

Damn well said.

sticky fingers is a damn fine album, I can't understand liking their singles and not enjoying that album.

You don't hear me bitching about the Violent Femmes, do you?

I hate them even worse than the Rolling Stones.

recovering optimist (Royal Bed Bouncer), Monday, 12 September 2005 23:18 (twenty years ago)

Dud, mainly because most of these people find value in Linkin Park and the like.

President Busch (dr g), Monday, 12 September 2005 23:34 (twenty years ago)

Great point dude!! Groundbreaking stuff!!!

My mother continues to hold up Mick Jagger as the poster-boy for reprehensible, animalistic rock depravity.

When the Monsters of Rock concert came to Memphis in 1985, my uncle took one look at Klaus Meine and Rudolf Schenker being interviewed on local television and said, "Goddamn, are those the Rolling Stones?"

He didn't really think that the Scorpions were the Rolling Stones, but meant it in the same way that we call every demon "Satan".

Classic, as it is the fuel that give people the energy to post anonymous comments.

President Busch (dr g), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 01:20 (twenty years ago)

"Mom, have you met GG Allin?"

I note you didn't post her response.

retroman, Tuesday, 13 September 2005 02:08 (twenty years ago)

The Beatles--"those drab, forgettable melodies"
Led Zeppelin--"that weak, limp-wristed drummer"
Ramones--"those tedious, pompous concept albums"
Stooges--"that quiet, self-effacing singer"
Marvin Gaye--"those chaste, unpassionate vocals"

bugged out, Tuesday, 13 September 2005 02:09 (twenty years ago)

Prince -- "that complete lack of any technical musical skill"
James Brown -- "his sloppy, grooveless band"
Husker Du -- "that barely-audible, almost timid guitar work"

A|ex P@reene (Pareene), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 02:15 (twenty years ago)

I wish I'd come up with the name "noise dud"

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 02:17 (twenty years ago)

"Smithers, have the Rolling Stones killed!"

latebloomer (latebloomer), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 02:33 (twenty years ago)

i normally dont care what people like and dont like to the point where it actually makes me worry about them and the future of society, and i can see how the last 20 years might make you suspicious of them as a whole, but, uh yeah, dud.
