if anyone cares....I found this on the strokes msg board and figured i'd copy it over here..some dude has a copy of the album or heard all the tracks and gave a sorta spur of the moment review...sounds interesting i think...

"Hey my friend who knew a friend who knew a friend let me hear the new strokes songs...i can't release them because I am not an a** h*** and it's too early...But i will review them better than blender did and all those crappy magazines..
You Only Live Once- Really poppy..alot like Hot Hot Heat...you won't think its Julian singing...he sounds like David Byrne...amazing chord changes, perfect pop song..Simple verse with david byrne singing, than a chorus with albert's rythm and than a nice solo after like The End has NO End...
Juicebox- heavy metal riff...totally Nirvanaish...than even more nirvana guitar playing by Nick...and very strange vocal melody sort of like Joy Divions...into a Kurt Cobain screaming bride...than a U2 chorus....where julian sings a high part like Chris Martin...great singing...best song on the album...
RazorBlade- guitar sound like Sugar Ray or some california thing because of David Kahn...but a great riff altough...verse melody is like When it Started than the chorus is probably the best strokes melody ever...an old motown type melody where julian says, "my feelings are more important than yours..."
Ask Me Anything- slow with melotron sounding thing...amazing...my fav. song...a lot like SPinning PLates like Radiohead...but lyrics are sort of Adam Greenish..he says "we could drag this on, but thats for other bands to do..." great chord changes...

MORE REVIEW!!!!!!!

Eyes of the World- my favorite song so far..chord changes for verse are taken from the cardigans- kiss me, kiss me...really great and the singing melody is amazing...julian really shines on this album...goes into a bridge with an arpegiated guitar part into a chorus that has sort of an Arcade Fire type guitar thing like Tunnels if you know them...really great...song...albert's guitar solo is also amazing sort of like End has no End or Automatic Stop...chorus repeats about 7 times until Julian starts screaming...
Fear of Sleep- also one of my favs..some songs i dont like but some will prolly be taken away by January...In this song julians melody follows a guitar line..kool and poppy..than the chorus goes over the same chord strummed once every four beats with julian repeating "fear of sleep" bout 10 times...very different from typical strokes..its very powerful..and the chorus i think he repeats "your no fun" i think...none the less...its maybe one of the best choruses the strokes have had...this chorus and razorblade's choruses are highlights...than after chorus the chords from JOhn Lennon's "isnt it christmas" start up...the verse if pretty typical strokes...
All around reviews..some of the solos are a little not strange on the album..especially on vision of divsion...its like a morroccan feel but than it gets really fast...sounds like Metallica doing a Dave Matthews jam...i dont really like it...but the songs are great...i think nick's guns n' roses influences really show on the album...alot of fast solos...Albert and NIck play really well and talented but not as much ear and beatiful melody as room on fire like on Automatic Stop or End has no End....
Heart in a Cage- great song...Starts with a hard riff...really hard..great drum beat..powerful...Reminds me of a fast version of a Doors song...REminds me alot of Billy Idol...IM just typing what comes to mind as im listening...than goes back to hard riff...high point is a beatiful bridge in which there is an arpegiated guitar point that is really beatiful over Julians singing...great line "Im stuck in a city, but i belong in a field"...

some song written by albert hammond jr. (can't tell who's singing--doesnt sound like julian) that was featured at the end of some dvd/home video of theirs.

HAHA yeah i definitely made the cringe face @ that one too...i dunno though...considering his other statements that one just seems particularly "on-the-fly"...i am ok with something nirvana-like on the solos, but the guns'n'roses, dmb, and metallica shit is scaring me. billy idol is ok with me though. either way i am intrigued.

"Im stuck in a city, but i belong in a field"

So their lyrics haven't developed much.
