This is the cynic in me, but I'm guessing Mute 'reissued' these discs to ride the coattails of all the post-Mute CV catalog purging that has gone on in the last year. I know at least Red Mecca was always available through their Grey Area division via mail order; it appears they've just made it and others more readily available to retail. Too bad.

i know this is against all the ilm rules re the cabs, but this is my fave era of the band
whether i will get this though is debatable as i have all the albums on cd, i have the various comps for 12" versions, and i have the 'conform ... ' boxset.
however, there are the dvds of the videos.
but the big question : is the promise of remastering really enough to make to stump up the ££ again ?
has anyone heard the remasters ?

First ever career-spanning (well, the best part of their career) compilation:http://mute.com/cabaret-voltaire/7885-electropunk-to-technopop-1978-1985-out-2324-june
I don't care that I have all this material in one form or another, I freakin' love this band so much, and it's fun to hear the 7" versions strung together like this.

dont think i have ever heard 7" edits as surely the whole point of CV are the 12" versions !
hence why i had no intention of getting this, but now that i think about it, i may indeed as i have very little of the pre-virgin era material and this could be a good entry point.
(i bought 'voice of america' during the virgin era and did not like the lo-fi production. maybe its time to have another listen .. )

Oh, I prefer the Virgin era but the best bits of the more challenging earlier work are fantastic. I recommend two compilations, "The Golden Moments Of Cabaret Voltaire" and "Living Legends" to get a great overview.
