spoken word/song stories/RAPPERS?

hi, i teach a creative writing class to some really rad kids in tacoma and several of them are interested in poetry and spoken word. i'm planning a day of music listening angled toward these forms. i think i will probably play "the gift" by VU, maybe "street hassle" by lou reed, probably something by patti smith, and, well, as you can tell, i'm predisposed to a certain way of looking at things... so, here i am asking you to recommend to me something on the hip hop and/or rap side of things. i thought of a few slick rick songs that might be good... anyone else second that or have any other suggestions?

thanks

It might be just as interesting to have the kids bring in what they think is a good example of hip hop storytelling and then have discussions around that.

Ice Cube used to be GREAT at ballads, try Once Upon A Time In The Projects or Alive On Arrival.
