John Brannon of the Laughing Hyaenas at #9? Say WHAT?!?

Alex in NYC, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

what a truly bizarre list!

gareth, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Jim Morrison at Number 5?

Nice to see Guy Picciotto and Mark Stewart so high up though

leigh morrissey, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I do approve of the best drummers list - britt walford, alexis flesig, brendan canty et al

leigh morrissey, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm sorry but i really don't understand what fred durst is doing in there.. above bob marley, john lennon, micheal jackson. i've never been good at distinquishing one persons voice over another but surely fred durst is pretty shit...

fran, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The more I look at it, the more upset I get. While I applaud the inclusion of folks like Mark Stewart of the Pop Group and Tod [A]shley of Cop Shoot Cop, the ranking is completely ass-backwards...or at the very least...completely random. I mean, I like Pere Ubu as much as the next guy, but Dave Thomas number one?!?!

Alex in NYC, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

david thomas at number 1, lennon at 105 ultra-mind-melt SHOCKAH!

why is anyone getting upset? it's just some fella's list.

jess, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

True, Jess. It's just that said one fella is grossly misinformed, yet presents his opinion as authoritative fact (yeah, `cos y'know I've never done that or nothing).

Alex in NYC, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No SEBASTIAN BACH or DAVID LEE ROTH!? WTF?!

j>e>l, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

he puts David Thomas at the top = he is a gentleman, fine and true

RickyT, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Scaruffi- What an useless bastard.

Julio Desouza, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i agree with that list except for tim buckley who is terrible

mark s, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It looks like he's just name-dropping in random order. "Hey - look what great taste I've got!" Can you really rank Adam Duritz and not even mention Richard Thompson? And if you think David Thomas is a great singer, then how come Neil Young & Bob Dylan are not on the list? No David Johansen? No David Lee Roth? (I don't even like DLR.)

Lists likt this are always bullshit - but this one is particularly annoying because it doesn't even seem to be coherent.

And "Dennes" Boon? Sounds like he's just trying to prove that he knows what the D stood for.

Dave225, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Look at "Singer/Songwriters". Is "Magnetic Field" really some guy's name? - or is he talking about Merrit? "Polly Harvey"? - get fucked.

Dave225, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dave Thomas was incredible in the movie "Strange Brew"...a shame about his death recently though.

Joe "PappaWheelie" Gonzalez, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

if you think David Thomas is a great singer, then how come Neil Young & Bob Dylan are not on the list

Cos Neil Young whines and Bob Dylan sounds like a frog, perhaps?

RickyT, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Neil Young sounds like a robot on Trans. Therefore, he should be on the list.

j>e>l, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I bow to Jel's superior knowledge of Mr Young's work. Sounding like a robot = excellent => WHERE IS RALF HUTTER?

RickyT, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Cos Neil Young whines and Bob Dylan sounds like a frog, perhaps?

..and David Thomas sounds like .....? He's not Robert Fucking Goulet. I mean, I love Pere Ubu - one of my all time faves. But you can't call David Thomas the #1 best singer and ignore Neil or Dylan.

Dave225, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sounding like a frog is great too though! BREKEKEKEX KOAX KOAX! Sounding like a robot frog is scientifically best.

Tom, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Jello Biafra was/is a complete and utter moron. He married my high school English teacher's sister. He came and spoke to the class about his spoken word material, and he could barely form a complete sentence.

Brock K, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

David Thomas sounds like The Greatest Rock Male Singer Of All Time, natch. I think it's eminently possible to rate Mr Thomas's voice and not Dylan's. I don't much care for Dylan's vocals, and Neil Young is kind of blah as a singer(unless he's impersonating a robot, of course) but I could listen to Thomas for hours on end and often do.

RickyT, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I love how organized this guy's site is.

A Nairn, Tuesday, 19 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Don Henley!!!

dave q, Tuesday, 19 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Stewart Copeland at number 84? Come on, he's a top ten.

Poops McGee, Tuesday, 19 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Evan Dando's in there?

Go here for my opinion.

Oh well.

powertonevolume, Tuesday, 19 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Or here?

powertonevolume, Tuesday, 19 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Down a bit. God, I'm not doing too well tonight.

powertonevolume, Tuesday, 19 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
