Again, I never heard of Allen Toussaint let alone his collection. Has anyone else?

He has written hit songs for a whole crapload of people, including Glen Campbell. He also produced the original "Lady Marmalade." He might not be known much outside the New Orleans community, but what a giant.

This album contains the original versions of 'Southern Nights' (yep, Glen Campbell) and 'What Do You Want The Girl To Do' (Bonnie Raitt, Boz Scaggs, others.) 'With You In Mind' is beautiful.

three years pass...

Saw Allen Toussaint; Henry Butler; Jon Cleary (New Orleans pianists) at
the Kennedy Center last night. Unfortunately there were 2 shows at 7:30 and 9:30 and so the first show was way too short. All were happily talking about the presidential election. Toussaint started off inspired but soon settled into his schtick--he does this kinda interesting and sentimental chat about visiting his Creole relatives out in the country before doing "Southern Nights." He also always brings a department store shopping bag full of New Orleans stuff--t-shirts, Mardi Gras masks, beads, etc. that he throws out into the crowd
