Saw Allen Toussaint; Henry Butler; Jon Cleary (New Orleans pianists) at the Kennedy Center last night. Unfortunately there were 2 shows at 7:30 and 9:30 and so the first show was way too short. All were happily talking about the presidential election. Toussaint started off inspired but soon settled into his schtick--he does this kinda interesting and sentimental chat about visiting his Creole relatives out in the country before doing "Southern Nights." He also always brings a department store shopping bag full of New Orleans stuff--t-shirts, Mardi Gras masks, beads, etc. that he throws out into the crowd
