Is AudioGalaxy undisputed source

Is AudioGalaxy the undisputed source for MP3 swapping now? I'm not implying that there aren't others still in use, I'm just asking if it's widely accepted as the place with the most volume/variety.

I'm new here so sorry if this is a repeat question...

Thats were I get the majority of my mp3s. The copyright thing is pretty easy to get around most of the time as well. The one word songs are a little tough to get to though. If its a multi-word song, just put in the artist and then one word of the song. That does the trick.

I find that if a band has a one word ambiguos title, you just have to search through pages...but once you find 1 song titled correctly, then you just selct the "more songs" link and it narrows it down. It's just rough when a band like "The Monks" gets confused there with "Monks". I had to DL every song by both bands to get the band I wanted.

Not really. I think Morpheus and WinMX are the main contenders now.

It's pretty damn great, even with a 56k and a mac.

The problems with Morpheus/Kazaa, Win MX, Open Nap, Gnutella p2p type systems are:

1: If you are on 56k forget it, either the other preson will disconnect before you finish the download, or you will not be able to get enough search results.

2: They depend on the other computers near you on the network (e.g. the internet) having the files you require on.

Whereas Audiogalaxy has a centralised server controlling searches, in which it holds a list of all songs that have ever been found on every users hardrives. Of course Audiogalaxy isn't perfect, and I wait the day when P2P technology improves and I can use that instead of going through a middle-man

The best way to get MP3s is to get friendly with someone with a private FTP used for trading MP3s of course, (non ratio preferably) but this is easier said than

Does anyone know why the ends of my posts always seem to be cut off?

Well, not all the time then! Please ignore me.

"Not really. I think Morpheus and WinMX are the main contenders now. "

Well, what prompted me to ask my question initially is I was a devoted WinMX'er, and I was not finding shite. Someone clued me onto/into AudioGalaxy, and it seems i was late to the party as everyone & everything was there.

"(with the exception of AudioGalaxy) If you are on 56k forget it, either the other preson will disconnect before you finish the download, or you will not be able to get enough search results."

This definately is one of the major pluses!

I have yet to look into Morpheus but I've heard good things.

Mac AG client

bnw, Tuesday, 19 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll stick with Morpheus till AG deals with this href="http://www.poenews.com/inhouse/vx2.htm">POE article on yet another spyware component (on top of attempting to install Gator).

I think someone already mentioned this in the old thread, but SoulSeek is by far the best Electronica music searcher out there... it's incredible what's online.

Mickey is very much correct. I just downloaded SoulSeek and if it's got beats, it's on there.

I think for me it's audiogalaxy. I was trying every other client, but my 56k didn't do too well. I like being able to just line up a list and be pretty confidant that I'll get every song, complete. Sometimes it's a pain finding the blocked stuff, but still less work than anything else.
