well, i was prepared to say "where's 'strange fruit'?", but it's #1. i gotta give them some respect for that list. good picks on nappy roots, the band, erika badu, bill monroe. my main nitpick would be that REM only makes it to 99, but uncle tupelo is at 79- where are they from, illnois? i had a fellow south carolinian tell me that all REM songs, and in particular "stand", are about the south. and another thing...i would have picked neil young's "southern man" over "alabama". other tracks left out: sonic youth "chapel hill", superchunk "driveway to driveway" (?), and how about "brown sugar"? oh yeah, and peabo bryson.

Wait a minute -- there’s not one Elvis song on this list??? but room for Little Feat, Glen Cambell, Vicki Lawrence, and TWO Randy Newman songs?
