Because I don't have enough of them! Of the ones I own, I'd say:

1. The Woods
2. The Hot Rock
3. Dig Me Out

But they're all excellent.

Bobby Mcintie, Thursday, 15 September 2005 00:51 (twenty years ago)

they're rank

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 15 September 2005 00:53 (twenty years ago)

This is how I rank em:

1. The Hot Rock
2. One Beat/the Woods
3. Call the Doctor (side 1 is perfect, side 2 not so much)
4. All Hand on the Bad One
5. Dig Me Out (I dunno, this has some really great songs, but I dunno there's stuff like JENNY and BUY HER CANDY to even those out)
6. S/T not that I even count it as a proper album, but oh well.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Thursday, 15 September 2005 01:09 (twenty years ago)

Whoops one too many dunnos there. Loser.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Thursday, 15 September 2005 01:10 (twenty years ago)

Dig Me Out

The Woods
All Hands on the Bad One

The popist take:

The Hot Rock
All Hands on the Bad One
Dig Me Out
One Beat
Call the Doctor

Haven't heard The Woods yet but if it's all "hard" and shit, it will probably go between DMO and OB.

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Thursday, 15 September 2005 02:27 (twenty years ago)

Call the Doctor is plenty pop!

(only kidding)

jimmy glass (electricsound), Thursday, 15 September 2005 04:58 (twenty years ago)

1) One Beat (at the moment at least)
2) The Hot Rock (probably their best, really)
3) Call the Doctor (still a blast)
4) All Hands (sentimental fave)
5) The Woods (need to listen more)
6) Dig Me Out (great, but i've heard it way too much)
7) s/t (i've only listened to it a few times, but i doubt anyone ranks this with the others)

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Thursday, 15 September 2005 05:15 (twenty years ago)

I sorta consider the s/t to be more like "the lost Bikini Kill album" and not really much of a Sleater-Kinney record. But I loved Bikini Kill, so I don't mind at all.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Thursday, 15 September 2005 05:17 (twenty years ago)

1. All Hands On The Bad One
2. The Hot Rock
3. The Woods
4. Dig Me Out
5. Call the Doctor
6. One Beat

Never heard the s/t. Enthusiastic about 1-4, 5-6 are eh.

These Robust Cookies (Robust Cookies), Thursday, 15 September 2005 05:24 (twenty years ago)

Hooray for the love for The Hot Rock. My fave.

ng-unit, Thursday, 15 September 2005 10:12 (twenty years ago)

good lord, look at all the hate for the S/T. is it because the lyrics are at their most cringe-worthy? that's always been my only complaint. it's my favourite SK record, so what i have learnt today is that evidently i know fuck all.

anyway, for what it's worth:

S/T
Call The Doctor
One Beat
The Woods
Hot Rock
All Hands
Dig Me Out

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Thursday, 15 September 2005 11:55 (twenty years ago)

Gee, this is interesting. Sort of a tribute to S-K that a bunch of people who basically like them seem to like entirely different things. I get the love for The Hot Rock, but not for One Beat at all -- there's really only a couple songs on that record I enjoy. What do people like about it?

Mine (as of now):

Dig Me Out
Hot Rock
Call The Doctor
The Woods
All Hands
anything else, including the unheard s/t
One Beat

2-5 is essentially random. I would change the ranking if I did it again in two hours. I really like all of them, but I think each has some significant flaws (different ones each time).

Vornado, Thursday, 15 September 2005 12:50 (twenty years ago)

1. dig me out
2. call the doctor
3. the hot rock
4. all hands on the bad one

well, i like ctd more than dmo and i like dmo more than hot rock but strangely enough i like hot rock more than ctd and the rest are somewhere in there randomly except for s/t which is the worst but still pretty great and easiest to masturbate to and h2b is right above that, corin is fucking hot lately

the dumbest, Thursday, 15 September 2005 18:39 (twenty years ago)

"Lately"? 4 EVA NIGGA!!! Fuck Carrie in every way except for like actually having sex w/her (sorry, no, I like tits) and my vast respect for her writing/playing abilities

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 15 September 2005 18:41 (twenty years ago)

ie. not fuck her at all, fuck her "L Word" type fans for lusting after her for no more than her underweightness

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 15 September 2005 18:43 (twenty years ago)

This is based on "popular" opinion on who's hottest in S-K and some chick couple behind me at the S-K show in Melbourne going on about her bottom, which I was straining to see, till I realised they meant they were jealous of how flat it was. The horror of girlrock struck me. Where could I go? I stayed. Thankfully they played "Fortunate Son" and I felt way less out of place.

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 15 September 2005 18:46 (twenty years ago)

It kinda sucks how S-K're the only band I like who get to get discussed sexually, it's a factor in like ALL bands I like, I've been in love w/John Lennon for a good 10 years now

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 15 September 2005 18:50 (twenty years ago)

Dig me out
The Woods
Call the Doctor

CL (Beth Parker), Thursday, 15 September 2005 23:29 (twenty years ago)

eighteen years pass...

I thought I was done, none of the post Janet albums have done anything for me, but this new one is great, Carrie's vocals aren't so hyper mannered, feels like this has an identity that's different

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Sunday, 21 January 2024 13:57 (two years ago)

I gotta do a big re-listen this week, I haven’t listened to S-K since The Woods came out

Did a similar relisten through Fiery Furnaces entire catalogue over the past three days

flamboyant goon tie included, Sunday, 21 January 2024 14:25 (two years ago)

Can’t pretend much authority with the debut and still working through the new one:

Dig Me Out
Call the Doctor
One Beat
Hot Rock
Center Won’t Hold
Woods
Hands On the Bad One
Path of Wellness
No Cities to Love

Evans on Hammond (evol j), Monday, 22 January 2024 02:47 (two years ago)

Gypsy's ranking (from a zillion years ago) is close to mine. I also like Alfred's.

I haven't fully decided but I think All Hands should be more up and Woods should move down.

Dig Me Out, All Hands, Call the Doctor, Hot Rock seem essential.

Wine not? (Ye Mad Puffin), Monday, 22 January 2024 03:28 (two years ago)

Man I just cannot understand ranking No Cities to Love below Path of Wellness.

Maxmillion D. Boosted (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 22 January 2024 18:47 (two years ago)

yeah that is insanity, no cities is pretty good!

I don't remember one second of Path to Wellness. But I also didn't remember One Beat even existed until the other month.

I? not I! He! He! HIM! (akm), Tuesday, 23 January 2024 00:25 (two years ago)

one month passes...

This is great, an EP probably right though https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnshX7USrJg

Dan Worsley, Saturday, 9 March 2024 09:07 (one year ago)

Just got back from their DC show and it was awesome. Very BIG, Very LOUD, with more side persons.

Anyway, you will perhaps be glad to know that they played a bunch of songs from The Hot Rock.
