Also, looking back at original list, I'm pretty sure the Sex Pistols were "Sex Pistols" and any "the" attached would be transient and not part of the band name per se. And whatever Malcolm might claim, they were hardly "hyped" to notoriety. How many albums did the White Stripes put out before they were "hyped"? D+ Try harder in future please.

i can see your point, i think you're right about the Sex Pistols, although All Music list them as The Sex Pistols. As for your White Stripes argument, it's not the point. they were hyped at a certain point, bigtiiiiime
