Come on kids.... Wolf Parade are surely Sub Pop's most likely to cross over a la Hot Hot Heat.

Who agrees?

I like the record.. but I can't really think of a big cross over single a la "Float on" or "Bandages" ((though I've only listened to the record like 3 times).. "It's a Curse" and "Dear Sons and Daughters of Hungry Ghosts" are catchy and all.. but still a bit "quirky" for top40/rock/pop radio

funny you should mention this, ilm, because i happen to be listening to them right now. i love the first half of its a curse, but after that it kinda lost me. i'm not sure if any of these songs sound like amazingly accessable hits though

Shine a Light sounds like a hit. As does This Heart's On Fire and Grounds For Divorce. It's one of my favorite records of the year.

There are a few other threads on this album, but who knows where they ended up... when does the album come out, anyway? I really like the EP a lot.

I liked the EP a hell of a lot, will pick up the album. They have crossed over to me. If they cross over to many others, they'll make some money at this thing.

...and do you think supporting a Fame Academy winner at the Scala is the kind of cross-over they'd be into. Think they'll find it hard to capture that kind of audience. Can't see it working myself.

I wonder if they'll stick with the same vocal stylings despite it being very dated at this point. I'd be kind of curious in a version of "I'll Believe In Anything" that isn't so wiry and of typical 04-06 indie ramshackle fashion and isn't sung by someone who sounds like they're weeping and shivering uncontrollably.

This makes me weirdly nostalgic in a way the LCD Soundsystem reunion doesn't, not really sure why though since they were gone the same amount of time.

No idea what a Wolf Parade album would sound like in 2016 though, other than 'out of place'. I think Krug's toned down his affectations a bit more recently

I gather part of the reason for this happening is that no one was buying Moonface albums, which is really too bad. Julia With Blue Jeans On was probably my favorite thing either of them did, separately or as WP.

Come on Spencer, I bought that Moonface album! It's great! Please keep making them.

moans and feedback (Dinsdale), Friday, 15 January 2016 16:20 (ten years ago)

should've said "guess," not "gather." pure speculation on my part.

Saw Spencer doing Moonface live, great stuff!

Would love to see WP live

niels, Friday, 15 January 2016 16:38 (ten years ago)

Always thought the vocals on Wolf Parade sounded more like Bowie than anything much of its time.

canoon fooder (dog latin), Friday, 15 January 2016 16:41 (ten years ago)

spencer's bowie-esque vocals what sold me on Sunset Rubdown

niels, Friday, 15 January 2016 16:53 (ten years ago)

love Sunset Rubdown. The only shit thing about them is their name.

canoon fooder (dog latin), Friday, 15 January 2016 16:55 (ten years ago)

would definitely prefer new Sunset Rubdown to new Wolf Parade but apparently that's never happening

Any interest in EP4? Just listening to it now, not earth shattering but enjoyable.

Operators is my favorite WP-alumnus project since the peak Moonface releases. Anyone with an interest in big broad dystopian synthpop should check 'em out.

Their new LP is pretty good on first lesson -- standout track is #8, "Wandering Son."

I missed their last one, guess I should circle back...

The Boeckner solo record is pretty decent, kind of a nice meeting point between Wolf Parade and Handsome Furs.
